The every-so-often long-winded status update...

It's almost back to shirt-sleeve temperature in my office-- 58 degrees right now. It seemed like we were heading nicely in a springward direction, and I mentioned something of the sort to Amy... and got a text message from her after she got to Greenbelt Park saying it was spitting rain and snow. Kinda glad I decided to pass on that; a few hours in ( Read more... )

Y'know, I don't think we heard about the glass ... what's with the glass?

Two Saturdays ago, when I got in the car to move it so I could shovel around it (having cleared the car itself off the day all the snow fell two days previous), when I closed the door, the back window glass broke.

Basically, the pressure buildup from the door closing was too much for the back glass to handle, and it turned into a billion pieces and dropped into the back seat. It reminded me of what happened to my truck back in January of 2007, except that the truck was four years old and didn't still have the dealer tags on it...

And I take it Ford is saying "Nope, nope, not our problem"?

I'm given to understand the main reason Chevy added a power pull-down to the hatch on the gen3 Camaros was because of a number of cases in which, when people slammed the hatch shut forcefully enough to get it latched, in cold weather, the rear glass shattered. And that was a big, expensive piece of glass, the most complex piece of curved glass GM ever made.

Ah, is _that_ why they did that? My mom's 3rd generation Camaro has that very device in it (which has, of course, needed repairing at least once) Hers is a convertible, which doesn't have the backlight built into the trunk lid, but I can certainly see the vestigial motor assembly hanging around after ASC tore the car apart to install the drop-top.

The Mustang's got a widget that lowers the windows a skosh when the door is open to try to reduce the pressure in the car, but apparently it wasn't enough...

FYI, Delta does a deal where you can basically use miles to reduce your fare at a penny a mile.

So 25,000 miles can, IIRC, pay for up to a $250 fare.

Given the competition on the Atlanta route, might be more than enough for a round trip.
