It's been a strange and eventful couple of weeks, and worthy of one of my infrequent updates. Not last Thursday, but the Thursday before that my maternal grandmother passed away at a fine old age. I got on an Aer Lingus flight out of Boston on Friday evening and got into Dublin early Saturday morning, meeting my sister and my father at a train ( Read more... )

and I do dislike job hunting (as opposed to all those people who really love it).

I'm so sorry! *Hugs* What suckage.

Hope to see you soon. Sorry I've been a hermit. The work ate my head.

Yow. Job hunting bad. Best of luck with finding a new one... I'd try to snag you a spot at my company, except, well, we're far away. (And I'm not sure you'd want to work for us anyway.)

Been a long time, dude. Remind me to email you or something, we need to catch up on many things I'm sure!

My condolences on the death of your grandmother, although as you point out, she reached a fine old age.

What news to arrive back at the lab to, though! Especially given the swiftness of the notice. All the best finding something more stable (though I guess the world of research can just be that fickle, science firms are inescapably slaves to the dollars, right?)

In this case, University research is slaved to being able to get grants, and money's tight at the moment. The nice thing is that I can blame Bush pretty directly for grant money being tight, what with the cuts being made to deal with the enormous deficit. I can just pile resentment on the big heap of other things I blame him for, which is very convenient.

Oh, and let me know how you get on with Meteos, I've had my eye on it for a while but not yet succumbed. AWDS is mighty though, thank you so much for introducing me to the GBA version many years ago ;-)

Meteos is good. It is occasionally frustrating to Dave that I beat his top scores after playing for a total of ten minutes, but I'm sure that will become a less and less frequent occurrence.

She really does do this. I'd just shown her how everything worked and she comfortably knocks off my score. I've got it back now, but it took a few tries.

It's really nice. Nice mix of carefully thought out strategy and frantic match-and-hope when things get busy. Uses the stylus to great effect. The sound blends with your actions in a fun way, and there are enough minor variations on the basic formula to keep you entertained.
