Where this expert a-year-from-a-bomb claim comes from? This does not sound right at all: one has to have the materials. Whatever the public might believe, the proverbial "atomic secrets" are not much of a deterrent 62 years after Los Alamos test; it is the availability of the materials. Was it in this NYT article? What day was it?

Well, I'd say for having the bomb one must posess the technology, the materials and the will to do it, of course. It was established that Saddam had the will, and now I understand we see he could have all the necessary technology figured out in 1 year, which, provided he could acquire materials during the same year, would equal the bomb. That's how I understand this discovery. Now, for the materials it is known that Saddam had low-enrichment uranium and uranium ore, could he enrich it to the point usable into nuclear weapon and in quantities needed for making one, and if so, how long would it take him to do, having technology, money and resolution to do so? And the same if the sanctions would be lifted?

Ah, materials are not a problem. Saddam had billions to spare - he bought half of the UN with his oil, he bought French minister for crying out loud. You do not think he would have had problems buying Uranium from Niger?
