"and just below stabbing yourself and claiming to be immortal " My friend Sean claims this doesn't work unless you also look like Chris Lambert. Just FYI. I have yet to ask how he knows.

I should put that list back together. There was some good advice on it... I remember number 10 was telling her she is actually a robot programmed to believe she was human, so she should sleep with you. Blade Runner FTW!
So in conclusion, this movie is about the breaking of the human spirit. It is about subjugating the needs of the one to provide moderate discomfort for the many. George Bailey is nothing more than the stool pigeon for the capitalist dream. He is the bait to make you and I rationalize our place in society. Do not think you could possibly do more than your place in life. You are a cog and while you may think the squeaky wheel gets the grease, you are wrong. The squeaky wheel gets shown how it has no choice but to do its job for the rest of its life and then slapped back into place and expected to like it. Really the perfect lesson for children at Christmas… Wow, that's actually the exact opposite of the actual meaning and Capra's intent behind the film
( ... )
I think you were there for the original "10 Ways Hollywood Taught Me To Woo Women" list. Maybe not, but they were all movies we were watching where the man inexplicably got the girl. I know it included Blade Runner, Highlander, Raiders of the Lost Ark, This movie, and I think the original Batman. I'll have to work on it.
And you are right. That is the promise of TV that you can live the unexamined life and TV promises that it will be better. TV is usually right :)
I feel I must defend one version of "The Christmas Carol"- the Muppet version. I mean really... Gonzo the Great as Charles Dickens. 'Nuff said.
I agree with you about "It's a Wonderful Life". Ugh. Makes me want to join GB on that bridge. It took me years to get through enough of it to the supposedly happy ending.
