Kcon 2016 concert 7/31 livestream liveblog

Whoops, don't know how much I missed due to the site being down half of the time. (and super lag, ofc) I caught part of the not!BTS perf via a periscope. Wait, I guess it's BTS after all. Meh, their music isn't my thing at all, though I can see how they could be fun in a group/live/club setting. But they do have that 2PM-ish dancing going for them, doing better as a stage presence than Block B.

Lol, SM getting to MC both days. I notice YG is still ignoring these things. Hahahahaha, Tiffany not bullshitting anything here. Just wanting to get on with it.

Whoa, not!BTS opened, and Astro is after them? Oooookay. Lol Astro going the Johnny's route of fun moppets, instead of going try-hard SRS BSNS. Okay, now I'm seeing how these nugus might have outdone not!BTS, like this. They're a good stage presence, really going for the audience engagement, instead of trying to hold on to a stiff sense of dignity. It quite compelling to see people who are so visibly having fun and happy to be on stage, where retreating to natural "talents" can make performers withdraw into themselves. These guys don't even feel like over-earnest rookies, but have the air of veterans like Suju. Little extraneous faces and gesture inserted at a every opportunity, but within a loose sync.

Whoa, local LA cheerleader interlude to intro Twice. Okayyyy.
Eh, Gfriend's music was more of my thing. The entensive roster, each with a unique hairstyle, is classic Jpop, reminding me of what I saw just this past weekend with Tokyo Performance Doll. Both Twice and Gfriend has less of that rookie over-earnest-ness than IOI, of course, but I can also see why Gfriend was on Day 1 and Twice is on Day 2, here, even though Twice's song and dance for their first song were arguably lesser. Twice are following the Astro model, of just settling fully into their skins, let their performance skills service their personality. The members are much more immediately distinct. And that second song is so much fun! I bet they're really great on variety. They've got that It visual factor, that both validates and answers those that critique idol music as the human factor over actual music quality. That strong performance personality really makes any kind of music compelling...so long as I can see them performing to it live.

So is this moppet soloist? (Eric Nam) He's been paying attention to the retro male soloist trend in America. That ain't the right type of hair for that greaser get-up, though he did obviously still dump a bunch of product in there. And yet, still more bargain bin that JT or Pharrell. OH there's another guy out now. This was a duo act? I mean, the music is more of my thing, but this fucker is so greasy, I actually kind of prefer Dean's pretentious fuckery, wtf. I mean, every now and then I understand the people who scoff at pop, and this guy is one of those times. Ick. Fucking 1D Shawn Mendes Charlie Puth "sensitive soul" bullshit. At least this guy is actually singing and not doubling his vocals like Dean. Mind you, this only applies to his performance style. He's advocating for charity during his MC, respect.
Lady, Collage, lady, lady, you have to actually sing into the mic. Lady, sing. Into. The mic. Does she not have an earpiece? Can she not hear that she's not singing into the mic? Ehh, this collab song sounds like a Bieber joint. This is the downside to English lyrics. Dude soloist has gone into Johnny's smarm mode. If I was following him, I'd probably find it really endearing.
Whoever is on the soundboard needs to stop watching the game and actually mix this concert properly. Wow, is this the first cover this concert? Huh.Lawdy, they always have seriously eyebrow-raising taste when it comes to English-language covers.

Aha, Davichi! They're the oldschool act of the night, huh. Gorram Kballads. I guess TTS ain't gonna be doing one, then, HOPEFULLY.
Hahahaha, Eurobeat number! It's for a song with transitions that really show their veteran status. They're not dancers, like most of the other performers here, but they command the stage nonethess. Like Jonghyun, they toe the line of getting vocally overwrought, but still, the pure control and interpretive capability on display is impressive. They are a duo for a reason, with proper cooperation.
Lol, still not nearly enough Kingblades in this crowd.

OMG TWICE COVERING UPTOWN FUNK WHAT IS THIS SHAMELESS FANSERVICE
Meh, not!BTS doing Moves Like Jagger is amusing too, but that 2PM-esque fratboy smarm is not my thing. Fits the song, though.

What
What is this EXO-like intro. The fuck, SM. Why did BTS and Twice intro them that was a weird-ass short special stage.
I wonder if they're gonna do solo songs for Taeyeon and Tiffany.
Mehhhhhhh, Twinkle. They better do Holler and/or Adrenaline this set. I will also accept Bang Bang, but not Lady Marmalade. Kpop camerawork is utter shit as usual. Can't even watch fucking Twinkle as eyecandy, gdi.
Oh good, Holler. That song is good shit. And yes, camera loves Seobaby, yes good.
Dawwwwwww, Seobaby wrote the ballad!
Oh, it's SNSD and Tiffany's birthday! Lol, getting that GGTS nostalgia.
Mehhhh, Party. Fuck Dr. Luke. Nothingwithout3, apparently. XD Yeah, I know this section seems super salty, but that's just because I was super deep into SNSD fandom. I'm all gushed out.

Wait, BTS is closing after TTS? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA WHAT
Eh, more fratboy aggression style. Fun, good choice for closing, I can see why they've not nugus (seriously, Block B, please learn to get your other members not as stiff), but still not really my thing.
Wait, I feel like I've heard this song on the radio in English??? Wait, wasn't this the song that Eric and Amber covered???
Yeah, this is more like if the entire group was like Zico. Definitely see why they've climbed the ranks, and are closing. They have both the weight and the energy. They're dynamic live.
Lol, saxophone song.

So the theme today was a whole bunch of music that wasn't my thing, but compensated by pure performance personality and charisma. Not keepers for the car, but great to witness live.

omg Taeyeon so smol on the post-concert walk, and not trying to strut, so smol and dorky. It's so weird to see Seobaby being the only one to audience engage. The other two seem so tired. Lol they're already fucking off while the younger groups are still hanging around, doing confetti shenanigans, actually walking further out.
