I have a friend that recently did this for his daughter.

She got a special meal, her brother was required to hold her chair at dinner, they had a long talk about what this meant etc.

That's very cool. Especially because the father was taking part in the celebration. Although I thought I'd die if my dad brought up the subject at the time, I think it's cool when dads can do that even if it's uncomfortable for them (and maybe in the short term for their daughter--but maybe not, and in the long term, either way, what a great way to say "i'm involved in your life" to your child).

In this case the father is much more involved in his children's lives than the mother.

He stole this idea in part from a Robert Heinlein story in Sails Beyond the Sunset or Time Enough for Love I think.
