Writing again

I'm writing again. Or, well, will be, once I'm done world-building. I've scrapped so much of the crap that I'd written when I was younger - enough such that you can't honestly claim that it's the same story. More accurate to say that I've salvaged a couple of bits, but am otherwise starting from scratch ( Read more... )

Let me know how that goes for you! I've got a world, a premise, and even a plot...but determination has flagged for a couple of years now. If you really get going on this...maybe I can use that as inspiration> :)

If it makes you feel any better, the first incarnation of this story (where I'm salvaging some parts from) came around in high school - so I totally understand about the determination part.

Honestly, part of what spurred me on was seeing an acquaintance on Facebook post some world-building stuff that he'd been working on, so I went back and looked for map generation software... there's some new programs that's pretty slick in comparison to the stuff that I'd used previously. Automatically generates landmasses, measures distance, can give overlay maps for climate/temperature/rainfall.... Really impressive stuff.

That was the kick in the butt that I needed to start doing some work again, and I've been reading/watching some other stuff that's giving some concepts for me to think about.

A lot of arc plot writing is seeing where the story goes on its own, and then going back through to add relevant details so it's connected from start to finish.

And ah, I'm glad I'm not the only one who studies anthropology in order to write!

::nods:: There's certainly some unfolding going on, but I'm concerned about breaking my own internal rules. I don't want a critical part of the struggle to be based on something that I later decide simply can't work that way, so I'm trying to hammer out the rules ahead of time, instead of doing them on the fly. Once I've got some more of that, I think I'll be able to work out how the struggle goes down on a more zoomed-in manner ( ... )

I'm less worried about both sides sticking around, and more about them being effective. One side is very clearly the underdog, and is seriously outgunned. So, there's a lot of work figuring out what they're going to do, and how effective it might be.

Unfortunately, doing a Google search for "How do I overthrow a government?" not only puts me on FBI watch lists, but also is less helpful when one doesn't have access to modern media and large quantities of cash & explosives. ::laughs::
