mm.. I view Facebook as a way to keep people updated on what's going on in my(our) lives, as well as keep up to date on what's going on in theirs.
It's easy enough to just ignore the people who make no damn sense (or defriend them entirely).
Once you realize it doesn't matter how many friends you "collect" and that some friend of a friend of a friend really doesn't need to be in your daily feed, it makes sense.
I know some people who use LJ and FB the same way.. it's a minute by minute update on the minutiae of their lives, and it gets annoying. I don't care if you pooped, I don't care if you had rice krispies for breakfast, and hey, thanks for making sure that hits facebook, LJ, tumblr, twitter.. I really need to hear about your tea four times.
Special things? That's worth it. As usual though, I'm fine with ignoring that which I don't wanna see.
Yes - I , as you know, choose to delete anyone who didn't actively matter in my life - and I am much happier for it. But it's still a palce where I feel left out, left behind, unloved, and unlucky sometimes. Which, as I said, tends to be my lot anyway, right? ;)
My Facebook peeve? All the damn "glee" updates :-P I feel like Facebook is my own personal TV Guide (of doom; I don't like "glee"! Bah I say! Bah!)

I do feel like FB gives me too much of a window. Some ppl want the world to be filled with voyeurs and I don't get it at all.
Don't be offended by noninvites, though. You have about 4 billion and 1 friends. Not all of them can be besties? And sometimes smaller group things feel more comfy-cozy, yanno? No hurt feelings meant at all.
Besides? There's not enough room in your living room for 4 billion ppl! I mean, you have managed to cram 3 bill in there, but 4? No way!
