May 21st - it has been touted at the day of the rapture - or, as we have always called it, the great snatch.  I am Christian, but I have never believed in the rapture.  I still don't.  But I am not going to run around and make fun of the people who do.  I don't mind the occasional joke - ie - Luna's tweet quoting Ghostbusters - made me laugh, yes ( Read more... )

The reason many of us are taking the piss out of it, is because people are PROFITING from this. Family Radio is still taking donations; they're worth about $100mil now. What do they need that money for exactly if they're gonna be raptured up?

Sure, there's many people out there who believe it for real and for true. But the whole thing has been turned into a publicity stunt by the very people who claim to be the most pious and devout. It's become a farce because they made it one.

Right - and I don't mind the bashing of FamilyRadio itself. Not one bit. But I have nevr really been big fans of theirs. They are what people think of when they hear the C word, which is what makes me look bad. Bah on them.

From what I've seen in my limited internet exposure, even people who *do* believe in the rapture didn't believe it was going to happen yesterday - they believe it will happen when it happens, and you can't predict or prepare for it. And I can TOTALLY dig that. Go happy rapture believers, go.

It's the "we've been wrong twice before, but the data was bad, but this time we REALLY mean it so give us lots of munnehs!!!" rapture that makes me snarky.

Guilty as charged. And I always try to be respectful of others' beliefs too. I can't seem to stop making snarky jokes about it either. Oh well. Probably because by the belief system espoused by FamilyRadio, I am not eligible for rapturing because I'm a Jew. That makes me mad. Lily is not eligible for rapturing. Lily would love being raptured. "I fly!" she'd say. "Up in the sky!"

The other problem is that I've been seeing these billboards around for a long time and going "What the...?" It's just hard to stop making jokes about it because it's FUNNY.

I dunno - MY God would never leave the children behind. But since their version seems to be run on money, who knows? ;)
