I Headache

Having loving parents within close proximity is a wonderful thing. I'm delighted that they made the decision not to move to Idaho because I don't know what I would have done without them -- seriously. Is that too co-dependent of me? Perhaps, but I really don't care. My folks are two of the coolest human beings who ever graced this fair earth.

:-) for what it's worth, as i get older, i find myself believing that americans place way too much emphasis on independence, and cutting oneself off from one's parents as a show of that independence. while it might not work for too many people to live with their parents until they got married (not live off their parents, but live with their parents-- working, paying bills, and saving money), i feel that it's really a viable option, for monetary and emotional reasons. i also feel like today's abundance of households consisting of unrelated young adults is a reflection of the human need for dependence while figuring out how to be an adult.

in other words, i think it's cool as shit that you have parents that you're willing trek back to when you need something. wallow in it shamelessly while you have it!

(coming from the viewpoint of someone who left home at seventeen, and has slept in cars rather than go back.)

I very much agree with your comment "americans place way too much emphasis on independence". I have lived the American model (left home at 17 to go away to an out-of-state college and never lived back home after that) and I have witnessed the European model, where children frequently live at home until married, simply because the cost to live outside the home is prohibitive. Real estate is not cheap nor plentifully available here and the cost of living is sky high so it makes sense for kids to stay at home until they have a viable salary ( ... )

I think you make some great points there. But you Euros have to live with your families because your countries are too small so you can't expand so much! Well, that and you haven't totally raped your country sides like we American's have. *CoughCough*

But in all seriousness, you do raise some very valid points there.

I think you're right about that. There was a time in my life when I was young when I would have been ashamed about doing that, but I'm older and wiser now. Or at least, I appreciate it more.

I'm jealous.

Dude, MSN DID have an article out not too long ago about this very thing. You know, it was one of those contrivedly universal "What really makes us happy?" ones, and the answer: family.

Too bad you no longer have an owl to keep you company, too. Owls are awesome.

If I still had that owl I wouldn't leave the house. I'd just invite everyone over to look at it and... make it do tricks... and such that owls do. I dunno, what does an owl do other than just sit still in places for absurd amounts of time. And look mean. But they are hella cool.

Sooooooooooo

you're having a wee bit of the up and down lately. What's good is that up is winning. You're family is staying around, you were highly successful at your play and are reaping rewards in response to it and you don't have to worry financially for a little bit.

The downside?

Hating your apartment and fighting a cold.

You're doing well.

I don't hate my apartment. I just get home cooked meals at home and really, is there anything better than a home cooked meal?
