My mind has been hazy since I found out on Tuesday that my mother is in the hospital... I am not going to get into too much detail about her condition, but she's in REALLY bad shape, and her liver and kidneys are pretty much gone

It is hard to know there isn't much you can do to help. But you can let her know how much she means to you, even if you think she can't hear you.
And tell your boss you need a day off!!!

My boss said to take as much time as I needed... Really, it's my paycheck that I have to listen to. lol If I go one day w/ out pay, it throws off the delicate balance I call my finances. lol
But you're right. Even if she doesn't respond, I should let her know how much I care before ot's too late.
