Attention all Knitwits, Craftsypants and Artsy Farts...

Now y'all know, I don't pass along these sorts of requests every day - but when one of my dear friends posted this on her LJ, I asked her permission to pass it along.

I have long maintained and firmly believe that I have one of the awesomest F-lists in the history of F-lists, populated by a vast throng of wildly talented and generous folks, ( Read more... )

Next time I grab some new needles I can knit up a hat. I have a ton of extra yarn lying around.

But I will need to get new needles first. The only set of circular needles I have is currently being taken up by a 700 row blanket.

Im on row 42.

Ooh, holy poop. Grab some DPNs and get someone to show you how to use the Octopus Torture Device. It'll go MUCH faster for a hat.

I'll see about getting to a yarn store and getting some yarn. I have an idea in mind.

Yay! And look at it this way...a good excuse to go visit a yarn store is always fun!

Wow. Nothing like getting hit in the gut unexpectedly.

I know I've got some of Shay's hats around, and if she would be interested in a wig, I'm sure I could find one or two.

The fact that she has no freaking support makes me want to come take that child and bring her home with a family that knows what the heck is going on, and can get her through this as normally and sanely as possible.

Just let me know, okay?

I'm sorry about that hon. I tried to figure out a way that I could manage to make this so that it didn't kick you in the gut...but I couldn't figure one out.
I really wanted to go collect that child and bring her home myself, because...jeez. I really want to stick the Mom with something sharp a few times.
And of course, I'll keep everybody apprised about her situation as I become aware of it.

No, it really is okay. It was just kind of a shock, you know?

What I can't understand is how cold and unfeeling her mother must be, because right now her little girl needs every bit of family she can get giving her good energy. WHO CARES if Daddy is gay? Aaargh, I'm getting mad at someone I don't even know for having their head so far up their ass.

Anyway, I'm gathering up a few things for her (can I ask her name? I'd like to personalize the card, at least) and will get them sent off early next week.

I appreciate you posting this. Her dad is a great guy and goes up there for every chemo session even if the mom throws a fit and won't let him in. Dude, she can't even visit his house because 'she might catch something." Pisses me off no end. I've already sent some cds (it's so cool, she's developed her dad's taste in music which is seriously loungy and swank)but I really want to just give her a huge cheering up from the big world.

And a big thank you to everyone on your FL who sends something. I will make sure any card you send is included, but for sure please send a note with each thing so I can add it to the giant card I'll make with everyone's name.

So what kind of loungy and swank music does she like? I ask because I have a rather vast collection of lounge music. French Lounge. Ambient Lounge. Actual 50's lounge. Bossa Novaville, Tiki Madness, TV Town, Mambo Fever, Music for TV Dinners. *laugh* If she's into actual lounge? I've got her covered.
It's just so sad that the Mom can't get over her homophobia enough to allow the Dad to be there for his daughter. And telling the kid...or anybody...to stop whining about losing their hair due to cancer treatments? That's just beyond the pale.
I bought three different hat patterns today at the craft store. MUAH HA HA. I figure she can get "ordinary" hats from other people...*grin*

yes! crosspost! It would be cool though if you might either take out my last name (just use M) or remove the name/address in a month or so when this has finished up. Not to be too paranoid but well, I *have* had stalkers and we are in Arkansas and some of the details could connect back to the little girl (I spoke liberally about the evil mother/grandmother in my locked entry and her father--and though we are a liberal town, obviously some idjits still have a problem with being queer)and might cause pain.

THank you!!
