Things to keep you up nights...

Jun 22, 2009 10:50

I was going to post this on Saturday, but then I thought "nobody reads LJ on the weekends" so I waited to post about this until Monday, because I feel that this is too important to get overlooked by a weekend posting.

The full article on this can be found over at Daily Kos but I'll just provide a quick summary here anyway ( Read more... )

My deep and abiding hatred for insurance companies began during the AIDS crisis. If you think they're evil now, it's nothing compared to what they did to those dirty hommasexshuls dying of their own private disease.

Yeah. Don't get me started. Don't EVEN get me started.

Yes, I remember those days too. I've known them for evil, soulless, pitiless sacks of pus so anytime I get the chance to reveal them for what they are, I take it. I'm hoping that soon everyday reg'lar Americans will wake up and figure out that there are vipers in our midst and take the appropriate action.

Yep. I have a Diabetes diagnosis, so I'm perma-screwed for insurance outside of a job offering it to me. Soren keeps talking about how he wants to strike out on his own someday and start his own consulting business or something and I'm like "Dude, we can't! I'll never get insurance if you quit your job!" One of us has to stay shackled to the corporate overlords, or we're screwed and since my profession doesn't tend to lend itself to working for a single employer - Soren's got to take the bullet. That is seriously, seriously Fucked Up right there.

These are exactly the things that keep me up at night. I think they are all bastages and I can't believe anyone with a modicum of common sense is still fighting to keep it privatized.

It's madness.

It is madness. I don't understand why the public isn't up at arms about this. Do people think they'll be the exceptions? Do they think the state will just take care of them no matter what? I've heard a lot of people shrugging and telling me "Well I'll just go on Medicaid then." And I'm like "If you say that, you've clearly never BEEN on Medicaid or had to go to the indigent hospital or the county ER...or go to the homeless clinic.." Not to mention the fact that with California's budget problems (and I think California is very much a canary in the coal mine for the way a lot of states are going to be going) there's not going to BE any Medicaid or much of any medical care available for the poor and/or insurance-less.

Rob, I've got some friends whom I'd like to have see this, but they're not on your friends list. May I either copy/pasta it to them or maybe remove the friends-lock status?

I have removed the friends-lock status. Link at will, compadre!

It's one of the issues that I'm starting to look at as a litmus test issue. Are our elected representatives even vaguely interested in serving the common good anymore or are they just figureheads who are doing as little as possible for the common man while lining their pockets and pandering to the corporate elite?
This is the test, and We The People are starting to get really pissed about how often they're failing it.
