This post discusses the latest chapter of Naruto, #352. If you don't want to be spoiled, do not read on.
This is a bit rambling...
So... The latest chapter of Naruto. I'm honestly not sure what to make of Sasuke anymore. I originally started as a Sasuke fan, and I loved Sasuke/Sakura ship, but after Sasuke abandoned his village to seek out power

You've summed things up so very well.
I think a lot of people hate Sasuke for his reactions to Naruto and Sakura when he encounters them at Orochimaru's hideout. Yes he tried to kill them, but the big thing is that he didn't and he probably could have if he tried.
I think that you're correct in that Sasuke left Konoha not only to get power but to protect his precious people from his quest for revenge. I think he fully expects to die killing Itachi. I also think that he knew that Team 7 would have backed him up in his quest. And he couldn't risk losing them. Not when he could do something to prevent it.
There is a telling quote from the Valley of the End fight that Sasuke says.

1. He's an arrogant jerk
2.His second ambition he talks of...
In one of the earlier ones, when Kakashi asks them about hopes and dreams he says he has two ambitions, to kill someone (Itachi) and to "restore his clan"
Sasuke, after completing his first ambition, will be the only Uchiha left, therefore he must have kids.
With who i leave you to ponder, but thats all I have to say. Other than that I think your exactly right.

I disagree with point #2 though, I think the second set of manga pics shows that Sasuke's abandoned his previous goal of clan restoration. Maybe, if his arrogant ass can actually succeed in avoiding death on his vengeance mission, he'll return to "restoring his clan"... he certainly won't have anything better to do with his life. But at the present moment he's given up on every other thing not related to his gaining vengeance... like hope, love, vengeance, friendship...
Ugh, when I think about him as if he left Naruto and Sakura behind to keep them safe, I can almost like him. But when I think of how utterly arrogant he is, that he was going to try and kill his former friends, that he gave up on -life- to find power... I just want to hate him.
