No.. not shippers... Sippers.
I'm creating a new term.
(I don't think it's been said before...)

Anyway, Sippers. It's the shipper you love but never want to happen.
This may be because

1) You enjoy the tension way too much.
2) The show would jump the shark if the "sipper" ever came to be.
3) Any other reason you would find fit.

And the name fits

When I first read the title to your post on my friends list, I could've swore you were saying "Slippers" lol.

But yeah, that term makes sense. And I'm not honestly sure if a term even exists for a situation like that in the shipping side of fandom. But if it doesn't, you should try and spread it. Or make a Wikipedia account and edit the "Shipping (Fandom)" article to include that and trick people into thinking that's a coined term.But yeah, based on your definition for "Sipper," that sounds like me a majority of the time, because even though there are so many ships that I like, there are a few that have happened in canon, and then when they did, I didn't really like them at all. And when I think about some of the het ships that I like (because I'm sadly aware that none of the slash ships have a shot at happening), I just know that there's no way they could ever work out in canon if they ever did

And I love it too. :) That's why I tend to use it a lot when talking about stuff on LJ.
