We celebrate "christmas" as a non-religious, gift giving day. We have our awesome traditions and are content. All of us (except my dad) are atheists, so religion has never been a part of the holiday season.

My favorite tradition was earlier tonight. For x-mas eve dinner we make snack/junk food. Crackers, summer sausage, cheeses, goodies, and lots of other finger foods are eaten instead of an actual meal. After a sufficient amount of food has been eaten, we have our x-mas eve jammies. When everyone opens our PJs we race to our rooms to change. Whoever gets back to the living room first gets to open our x-mas eve movie. We watch the movie and then go to sleep (well, we go to our rooms, I haven't gone to sleep after the movie since I was 13).

I totally won this year. Woooooo!

My family celebrates christmas. Why? I've never really thought about why except that that's how I grew up, that's how I was raised. My entire family, immediate & extended celebrates it. We all have different churches we belong to. I don't personally go that often, I believe you don't have to be in a church to worship, I can do that at home ( ... )

LOL! I grew up eating them so it's normal for me but that's usually the reaction to the sandwiches.

So that's a no on bringing them with me when I come down to visit you. :p

We did the whole church thing when I was a kid. But now that I'm an adult I don't consider myself Christian. So for me it's about seeing loved ones and sharing love. In the form of presents most times :) I like the concept of celebrating the solstice so I tend more pagany now.

Growing up, there was something wonderful about putting out the stockings Mom made for us as kids. I still have mine, and there have been some Christmas's I've stayed at either my Mom's or sister's the night before, and brought mine along. It was a tradition that on Christmas morning, we could open our stockings before the parents were up, and "it wasn't Christmas if there wasn't a Kit Kat in our stocking." Oddly, Mom always included the latest Avon chapstick, with next year's calendar on it, but that tradition wasn't as important in CA as it was in OH growing up ( ... )

oh i LOVE the stocking thing. our fam did that too. we could open our stockings before the folks were up. our "t just wasnt christmas without"...was those chocolate oranges you whack and the slices fall apart. do you know those? my hubby has just NOT latched onto the idea of getting me one of those every year though so i have to go buy my own now. :0( hahaha

i love that you filled your moms stocking too. omg i wanna see your coffee cozies?! did you put up pix and i missed them while i was traveling or have they not hit the airwaves yet? my handmade thing for everyone every year is ornaments of all sorts. i try to vary them but i love those swirled paint ones so much that everybody has gotten a few of those :0)

thanks so much for sharing our holiday traditions with me! ((hugs)) how was your chanukah this year? i like that your candles have the same feeling for you as the lights did.

I haven't posted photos yet, but I'll work on it. I neglected to *take* photos of the big set I took to Christmas at my Mom's. But I'm working on selling these on etsy, so you'll see them soon. I'm also thinking of making scarves for etsy, some hand-painted cards & stationery, and some other treats ( ... )
