Splinter of the Minds Eye was so good! That was my first Star Wars book and it got me hooked! Meaning, I read it in fifth grade, so if you thought it wasn't that good, I guess I wouldn't be too shocked.
You have to read all of transmetropolitan. It is SOOOO GOOD. The ending is the best and totally is a payoff for reading the whole series, so mark that down for 2010.
lol I actually think Splinter of the Mind's Eye is an incredibly silly SW book. I actually compiled a mini-list of my problems with it(!) Big surprise, huh? 1. Luke is fluent in an alien language because he learned it through some educational videos on Tatooine 2. Leia acts like a true damsel in distress with all her crying and sighing 3. Vader is OOC, I feel. He's a lot more blatantly cruel in Splinter than he is in the movies 4. The author forgets about Threepio and Artoo for whole chapters, and never explains how they're able to hike up mountain ranges and jungles with Luke and Leia.
long rant! But Splinter was only $1 so no regrets here.
MAN! I totally forgot about all of that! All I remember is that those random gray guys were such a strong presence for the empire and in the force that they really should have been in the movie. That's a huge problem I often have with Star Wars books. They just throw in these really cool alien species that are totally awesome and totally control the force and everything (like the night witches) but for some reason Lucas just wasn't cool enough to include them in much of anything. I can't remember crap about that book, or if I'm even remembering the right book.
Aw Koda, you should do a reading list! They're so useful for keeping track of book goals for a few months. I only started doing mine last summer but it amazes me how many books I've read--I haven't read like this since I was a kid.
About the Historian...I'd rather wait until you've finished it to talk about it. Which part are you on? It's such a long book XD

I don't really read the EU, but the species I would have most liked to see in the movies would have to be the Falleen, with their awesome pheromones.
