So, I want to take a class this summer. It's $2500 (6 credits). I want to fill out a FAFSA and try to get some financial aid, but I have no clue. I'm not quite done with my taxes but my dad and I did a good chunk of it last night. Advice? What exact information do I need. I already have the school ID:011644 and I'll need my return, right? I've done the FAFSA many times. What you do is use last year's tax information, especially if you are pretty sure it will be about the same. Then when you get your taxes done for this year you go in and make a correction, which you can make one of at any time after filing your FAFSA. I think they let people do this because they know some schools require earlier submission and because aid can be competitive while taxes tend to take time.

And what I mean by "which you can make one of" is that you can make as many corrections as you need to and submit the corrected form, but you can only do that once. At least I'm fairly certain it's only once, it should tell you on the FAFSA website. It's really easy to fill out the online form and much quicker than trying to do anything by snail mail.

Go here for all the info you need about the FAFSA. You can fill out parts of it online, save your data and finish filling out the rest whenever you have what you need. They've made it pretty easy.
