I can't stand Kanye West. My friend Toreko loved College Dropout from the second it came out, so I maintained a vague sense of affection toward it on pure principles of loyalty and friendship.

But then I listened to it. I cannot stand the way hiphop views/depicts/treast women. One minute he's urging us all to look to God and blahblahblah, the next he's "rapping" about ho's and bitches like Easy E returned to earth. Ick. Of course Harry Connick Jr was visiting the convention center in New Orleans by the Wednesday after the hurricane. Good of Kanye to show up with his care and concern for a concert a couple days later.

But I think you get it right--Bush don't care about poor people. He doesn't care what color they are.

he does that a lot. he will talk about respecting women one minute, writing songs about his mother one minute, then he does the stereotypical ho thing.
its tupac-itis.

he has moments where he recognizes this, and raps about how he lusts after women then has a daughter then hopes she doesnt grow up too fast so she will have to deal with guys like him.

And then he goes on to say "but if they treat her like I treat her mama then the bitch deserve it."

I prefer my misogyny on the subtler side.

no, because up until this morning I was dealing with that troll of a medical assistant who was dead set on leaving me high and dry. I thought I might have to hoard my precious few to keep me sane while I was filing a complaint. Fortunately I talked to this nice gal there this morning who said they will get me more pills and something stronger if the doctor says yeah. He better say yeah.

That's one of my personal favorite lines from that night.

I think people could have taken him a little more seriously if he could have actually put together a cohesive string of sentences instead of popping off like it was stream of conciousness.

The look on Mike Myers face was priceless. It was that "Dude! you totally didn't just say that!" look.

First of all, I'd like to state that as usual it was a pleasure to read and thoroughly bask in the acuity of this short commentary. I love reading this journal. That line comes to mind, "From the mouth of babes flow the words of wisdom." or something much like that. In a sense, Kanye is doing precisely that, being ignorantly savant... but not in the way he thinks... no?

But very very nice.
