This is wonderful. So sad and gritty with reality and yet beautiful.

Thank you. <3 That period in time is an incredible sad period for everybody involved, really. I just want to write about it in some small ways.

(And to explore something of the partitioning of Austria, because somehow I think most of us forgot it happened in light of the much more significant East/West Germany divide.)

This is fantastic, I´m always a little unsure to read something with this pair, but you made it work, it was nice, not some plain old UST, Prussia treats Austria like dirt because he loooooves him, and Austria is a delicate flower that spends all the time playing the piano.
They have been going to a lot of things together, they feel lonely and insecure, and they find a little comfort in the other.
Wonderful. <3

Thank you. <333333 While I love the good old UST fics for this pair just fine, I'll have to admit that I'm a fan of a bit more balanced relationships and that tends to slip out in things I write. PruAus does have the potential to be more mutual and understanding than it looks, I think. <3

And really, there isn't a better time to feel lonely and insecure than the mid-20th century if you're Prussian or Austrian!

Exactly, UST can be done perfectly if you don't forget this characters are extremely complex, and fantastic and interesting.

True, very true.*plays sad song in violin* :)
And this:
"How's the whole self-victimization plan going, anyway?"

The musician's fingers clenched into a fist. "Smoothly," he answered, after some length of silence. "I wish you wouldn't call it that."

"Why shouldn't I? It's the sort of wars you fight so well, the kids won't even know what hits 'em. Lies and tears and the fine, fine print. That and rewriting yourself. Comes with practice, doesn't it?"

Oh my... somehow most of the PruAus fics I read here just manage to take my breath away, like this one. I really, really admire those who can set up a certain atmostphere and make the readers have the feelings as though they were one of the characters; and the reality in this fic is just beautifully painful. You've done a great job; I hope one day I can write fics like this too :) *salutes*

Well, considering that I've only written two PruAus fics, you probably just haven't seen my writing when it's just being silly. XD

Thank you for the kind words, though. :D And don't worry, as long as you keep writing, you'll be able to write this sort of thing easily one day.

So beautifully well-written. Not pornographic like other fics. True, honest, elegant, it tugs at my heartstrings and makes me smile. And of course there's that heart-race moment that simply must be there. Perfectly executed.

Bravo.
