A quick Avatar review.

In essence, this movie to me was like a Thanksgiving dinner at a five-star restaurant. I knew exactly what dishes were going to be served, and in what order, well in advance -- but there will be a few surprises, and the feast will still be magnificent.

Spoilers ahead! )

My big problem with the use of Eywa was that it removed the tension from the end of the movie. Once we see Grace about to be transferred to her Avatar and failing because she was wounded, you knew how the movie would end. Heck, Sully wasn't even seriously injured in the fighting to add dramatic tension to the transfer scene at the end.

Yep, there was that too. You knew, pretty much from the moment the Grace scene at the Tree of Souls started, that Sully was going to make the jump himself.

The only real surprise was the timing. I was not expecting that it would end the movie: I was expecting him to do it in order to join the battle as the Toruk Makto, but surprisingly, he did it while still Avatar-linked, leaving him vulnerable to the mobile lab being attacked.
