The Very Thought of it...

About a month ago, I signed up to become an anonymous egg donor. I think I was up late one night, there was an infomercial about egg donation, and somehow the message got stuck in my head subconsciously and the next morning found me calling clinics and seeing how I could help ( Read more... )

If you need anything or have any questions about the process, feel free to ask me. The whole process is quite rewarding (not just in terms of the $$) - the only part that was somewhat unnerving was the uncertainty of the last few days before retrieval. During the initial meds-taking process, you've got to be available to go to early AM tests a few times every week. Then when your numbers hit a miraculous number, the nurses/Drs. will give you short notice to get on a plane and get your butt to Portland. If you're working by that time (this FA stuff sounds very interesting!), you may want to see how your employer is about your taking off for a couple of days on short notice. Other than that part, I think you should have a good experience! :)

PS. There is actually no "need" for anyone to go to retrieval with you. I traveled alone each time, and was perfectly fine. But IPs know that they are expected to pay for a companion to travel, so if you're more comfy that way, definitely take up the offer.

Thanks for the info! They said I had to have someone in mind and they would cover everything for the companion. I figured I could take a friend and we could explore Portland. I've informed my employer that I'm doing this and they're ok with it considering I can't do any real work besides training for my exams and observing how all this works until I get licensed which will take about 2-3 months.

For the day or two you will be there for retrieval, you probably won't be in any shape or mood to do any exploring. If your IPs are cool with it, you could probably just get them to get a return flight a couple of days further out and make a fun stay of it! :)

I have a friend who took the exams... she was with Merrill Lynch. It's rough, but I know you can handled it. I'm excited for you.

I looked at the donor thing in college... May revisit it soon. I think it's a great thing for people who can't conceive on their own.

Hey! I just decided to check my livejournal today many years later, and saw you in my friends list. We've all come a very long way since all those years ago.

While I never really posted much to you, I did read your various posts, and learned a lot about dealing with life's challenges.

My best wishes for you, "WildChild" :)
