Lee Jinki always enjoyed watching the object of his affection during class, his expressions in particular. This boy had the best facial expressions, especially when he was confused. He loved watching him look around the classroom every morning as he found the notes on his desk while Jinki acted as innocent as he could. Of course, Jinki knew he was no actor (and there was good reason for that) and he wouldn’t be surprised if everyone already knew it was him leaving those little notes. He’d been doing it since the start of February, always leaving the smallest of vague hints as to whom he was (such as signing “the guy with short hair” when all the guys had short hair, or “the guy behind you” when the other sat at the front of class right in front of a girl). Today was the last day before Valentines, though, so today would be the day he finally had to (got to) reveal who he was. And hopefully the other would feel the same.
Kim Jonghyun always (though he would never admit it aloud) looked forward to the little love confessions he’d been finding on his desk every morning recently. It really made his day to read that he had a secret admirer, made him smile to read all the little things they bothered to notice about him. He really wanted to know who it was though, he was known for being impatient so of course he tried to figure out who it was by the little hints the other gave him (the other boy was ridiculously vague; saying things like “the boy in the blue” when more than half the class was in their blue uniforms) and today was no different. “Jonghyun-ah, today’s the day, are you excited?” He read on the note before glancing around the room to see if maybe the boy would show himself this time, but no luck. He was tempted to just stand in front of class and ask for whomever it was to stand up, but secretly he was scared that it wouldn’t be the person he hoped it was.
See, Jonghyun had been kind of looking at one boy who always sat at the back of the classroom. He was a quiet kid (and kind of clumsy as he always, without fail, tripped over something on his way to the front of the class to turn in homework), with light brown hair and the cutest smile that made his eyes practically disappear. But the chances of him actually being the one who was leaving these notes was slim to none with his luck. So he supposed he’d just have to wait.
Jinki smiled to himself secretly as he exited his last class of the day. He was so excited to meet Jonghyun where he knew he stayed in the library after school until he went home that he could feel his heart racing in his chest, beating so hard against his ribs he thought it might just break them. He could hear his pulse in his ears, but drowned it out with thoughts of him rehearsing lines over and over and over until he knew them better than he knew what day it was. As he finally reached the library he peeked in to see that the other boy was, in fact, in there, sitting at the same table he always sat at. He smiled again and had to take a few deep breaths to calm himself before going in so he wouldn’t trip and make a fool out of himself.
“Jonghyun-sshi,” he called the other’s attention as he neared his table, one last note in his hand behind him. As Jonghyun turned to face him, Jinki could feel his face turn bright red. He really was going to do this. “I wanted to give this to you,” he said, his voice almost failing him as he held out the note in front of him. He thought his heart was going to go just like this voice, especially when Jonghyun smiled as he took the note. In it was written almost a complete love confession, including how long he’d liked him and all about himself, but Jonghyun didn’t read it. He simply opened it, glanced down at the bottom then suddenly Jinki found himself in the other’s tight embrace.
Jonghyun was ecstatic when he turned around and found Jinki behind him, but had to contain himself in case the other was just delivering the note and it wasn’t actually from him. So when Jinki handed him the note, Jonghyun watched as the other's cheeks flushed, then, not bothering to read the note, he looked to the bottom to see who’d signed it. “Love, the boy standing in front of you, Lee Jinki” it said and (even if it was slightly odd and out of character for him to do) he couldn’t help but wrap his arms around the other boy. He’d been looking forward to this all day, hoping that, for once, Lady Luck wouldn’t hate him and would instead bring him and Jinki together. He noticed how the other stood stiff, though so he backed away slightly, seeing that Jinki’s face was still completely bright red. He looked back down at the note and, seeing the words “would you be my valentine” scribbled in Jinki’s handwriting just above his signature, he smiled again at the slightly taller boy and took his hand in his own. “Of course I will, Jinki,” and with those words, the older boy smiled.
Smiled just for him.
This would be the best Valentines…no, the best day ever.
