There is something absolutely magical in taking a used aluminum foil chocolate wrapper and smoothing it out with a coin. The transformation from solid, crinkled, and rough beneath the fingers to thin, smooth, and slick is nearly sublime. Great care must be taken not to rip the foil as the folds vanish, great patience to ensure you smooth it

Just wondering why you would spend so much time smoothing it out.

Because the difference in what you started with and what you end up with is fun and spirit giddying.
