So, this week we are supposed to make up a holiday. I quite like this idea, as who doesn't like holidays? You get the excuse to take a load off, eat lots of food, see people you (hopefully) like, and sometimes even get and receive gifts. We need more holidays, I feel. And not necessarily ones where we are expected to give gifts, like the ( Read more... )

I also believe there is such a thing as a mini-holiday. This would be, in this case, a Mental Health Hour. This is where you blow off everything you should be doing in favor of the things you'd rather be doing, but not for as long as you would for a full Mental Health Day. ^_^

See, I'm kind of afraid to do that with any future job, because I still think taking a mental health day was what made the final decision to axe me, even though they say it was for budgetary reasons.

*shrug* I don't know. What proof do they have that you didn't maybe have a bad reaction from something you ate, or maybe had really stuffy sinuses to the point you thought you had a cold, but that it was actually a lasting allergic reaction to one of your friends' many cats and it went away while you were at home? There are a million and one reasons for people to miss only one day of work at a time, and frankly, it isn't their business what you did on the day you weren't there. Since I know you worked your ass off for those ungreatful bastards, if they chose to fire you because they thought you were being lazy, that's their loss.

If you have to give an excuse, so long as you don't do it A LOT, "I have a doctor's appointment" works nicely.
