The tone of that article concerns me.minipunkNovember 12 2004, 08:26:10 UTC
What happened to objectivity? Benefit of the doubt? Not generalising a whole group of people into one stereotype?
eg We live on islands of sanity, liberalism, and compassion They--rural, red-state voters, the denizens of the exurbs--are not real Americans. They are rubes, fools, and hate-mongers.
"We" and "They" is not a good way to think. Especially when we are sane and liberal and compassionate, and they are rubes, fools and hate mongers. How many people actually think like would you gather? In Toronto, in my group of friends, no one's actually this whacked. But we are fairly distant.
It's interesting to think about a US civil war, which I was skeptical about til I read this article. If there are a bunch of loonies like that, it's entirely possible. http://johntitor.com/JohnsWar.htm
