i'm curious why you find walking in crowds easiar with dead headphones?

i find portable music to be an unneeded novelty. one that i've come to dislike for some of its more subtle traits. music (in general) is connected to me emotionally and if i don't have a constant input of new stuff, i tend to get in an emotional circle. when i'm listening to it all the time, it compounds the effect

it provides a passive barrier. i can pretend not to hear things. it keeps my ears warm. it saves me the trouble of saying 'i don't have any money' to the masses of homeless people around locations i frequent.
