Well, I'm not entirely sure why I'm posting right now. I guess I feel guilty for not updating more often (because, y'know, I have such a devoted audience who clamours for constant updates and such...), but with school coming to a close I might actually have a chance to update regularly. Not that I will, mind you, since that requires desire/motivation to update as well as time, but there's always the chance, and so forth.
Speaking of school coming to a close for the year, it is so nice to be able to have time to actually read again. I forgot how much I missed just plowing through a book in the space of a couple of days or less. Granted nothing I've read recently could be considered high literature (re: A Hulk novel and a novelisation of the Batman No Man's Land arc/event/thing from 1998), but the books I've been reading do have their merits.
Y'know, Peter David is really way too undercredited for the sheer amount of psychoanalysis he brought to his run on Hulk. Most people just criticize him because "Oh, you made the Hulk smart, and made him Banner! You've ruined him!". Yes, I used to be one of those people, but, and maybe one person reading this will get this, "my thinking has gone full tilt since then" and I've realised just how complex and interesting he made the character. After all, one can only write "Hulk smash!" so many times before the ideas kind of run dry.
However, what David did was explore why Hulk smash, and, in exploring the fact that the Hulk was a part of Banner before the gamma bomb, gave the character a complexity which, for a long time, had been sorely lacking. (Just as a side note, reading the early Hulk stories is really enertaining from a Cold War propaganda perspective, as, I swear it must have been every other issue, Banner was accused of being a dirty red commie traitor spy bastard).
Wow, that was a lot more than I planned to write on that subject... Also, if anyone has any reccommended reading for over the summer, I'm all ears.
Anyways, what's been new with me? Ummm... Lessee...
Well, for one, Meika and I haven't fought once since Sandra's moved. Funny how that works. I mean, yeah, we've had our little disagreements, but nothing like the fights we had while Sandra was in the city. Coincidence? I think not.
Ummm...
Well, currently, I'm playing a lot of Phoenix Wright and MGS3 Subsistence. While the copy of Phoenix Wright I'm playing is an import (Oh, Comstock? You were right about the language change being infinitely amusing to play with), I am so happy that game companies are finally bringing text based games like this to North America. I've been waiting for games like this since I discovered them for the SNES (I unfortunately didn't get very far with the one I had a chance to try. Why? It was in Japanese. I thought the concept was incredibly cool, however).
I'm a bad fan for saying it, but MGS3 is much more, well, playable, with the stick-controlled camera. Don't get me wrong, it's a good game all around, it's just that for a game that relies so much on camoflauge for both the player character and the enemies, being able to look around while moving is damn near a necessity. It also makes for some really cool moments, such as when the Ocelot unit surrounds the abandoned cabin you've spent the night in. There's just something satisfying about crawling up to the roof, and using the camera to line up enemies before sniping them with a bloody silenced HAND GUN. I know that sounds sociopathic, but please understand that this sort of thing is an action movie moment that I have absolutely no desire to act out in reality. I'd like to think I'm just a touch more sane than that. Just a touch.
Other than that, I'm not sure what to update with.
Well, my right eyelid is red and swollen (because everyone needed to know about that!). It was either caused by one of two things: a shitty eye bandage I had to wear for a character I'm playing in a scene (yes, folks, I do occasionally likes me the actin') or I got hit in the eye by a hailbullet (let's see you come up with a better term!) when Meika sent me out at one in the morning to fetch her Drumsticks. yeah, I know, I'm whipped... *Sighs* Although, on the plus side, anyone else who would be interested in dating me? I'm already pre-trained! Whoo! ... I'm pathetic... *Hangs head*
Everything else, I'm pretty sure Meika has already covered in her LJ, so, yeah...
Oh, and I've discovered that Calabria has amazing pizza. I mean, the meat lovers pizza must have been an inch thick, and I don't mean the crust. People must come over and we order some and party or something.
Anyway, I need to be up for work in about 6 hours, so I'd better end this. If people want to hang out or whatever, I will actually have semi-free time soon, so, umm, yay!
Ok, I'm done.
