I love this view of a grown up Christmas, without the rush to open the stocking, or whining about having to eat breakfast before the present opening can begin. Because of course the house is full of grown-ups and aliens. The only bona fide kid present (the retired general) has long since learned that all his whining will probably only lead to dawdling over the pancakes, second, third, and fourth cups of coffee, and a sure snowball to the back of his head.

I love the way Jack helps with the cookies. His most characteristic way of helping, pretending he isn't doing anything out of the ordinary, but being there in a way that makes talking about it superfluous.

F.Y.I. Comment fic following is edited in order to put "of IV" on the subject line. I couldn't say how many parts long it was before I'd seen how many parts it broke gracefully in to!

My pleasure! I don't know what it is about your fics, but they always seem to have a little something which catches my fancy and leads to plot bunnies!

Wrapping It All Up

When everyone was finally into dry clothes, which revealed the unsurprising fact that Jack owned a rather large number of sweatpants, sweatshirts, and gym socks, which he clearly bought rather too large, since Teal'c fit into them without difficulty, and the surprising fact that Vala, in spite of all her time on Earth, was still inclined to view Sam's sweats in what Jack called "Barbie Pink" as a boy's color, Jack wanted to open the presents. In the discussion that followed, Daniel made a flurry of quickly spoken and rather loud points, because he was hungry, having been a bit too queasy and headachy first thing in the morning to have properly dug in to his breakfast. Before things got too out of hand, Vala, currying favor with Daniel by taking his side, which was the only reason she would ever consider postponing presents herself, pointed out that Jack could no longer order Daniel around. He might have been a general, but now he was retired ( ... )

Surprisingly, it was Teal'c who broke, or more accurately tired of the childish behavior of his brother warrior, and could stand no more such unseemly behavior from a seasoned leader of men.

"It is time," he said. "We must proceed before O'Neill has made enough snowmen to rival the number of Anubis' Kull warriors."

Jack was first to the living room.

"That's just disturbing," said Daniel, watching his rapidly retreating form.

"What is?" said Cam.

"Jack skips just like Vala!"

Since Vala had been second to the tree, the comparison was easily made, and very valid.

There were no stockings. This had been a subject of some contention, Jack, Vala, and Cam insisting that Christmas would be lacking without them, and Sam, Daniel, and Teal'c maintaining that they were a little unseemly for adults, when there were no children present. After several discussions, and some heated lobbying, Sam (as the boss of four of them, five every now and then, when he'd let her) declared that there would be no stockings this year. Before Jack could ( ... )
