Piercing babble

Feb 20, 2008 21:36

I've pretty much decided that I'm going to get at least one more ear piercing. Just cartilage, nothing exotic. Still undecided as to what side I'm getting it on.

With a tongue piercing pretty much out, I've been noticing labrets more and more. Especially those vertical labrets that have become popular recently. Thoughts?

Molly has a vertical labret now. It looks great, but she thinks it's slowly rejecting, so that's a risk to be aware of.

I think the vertical thingy looks cool.

As a future dentist, I highly recommend the vertical labret over a regular one. The vertical one won't wreck your teeth, and I've always wanted one!

I was actually going to ask you for a (future) dentist's input. <3 Much nicer on the teeth than a tongue piercing, I assume.

Indeed! Tongue piercings, while being pretty awesome, can contribute to bone deterioration in the jaw, as well as tooth decay by slightly decreasing the tongue's mobility so it can't act as well as a "natural toothbrush". There are similar risks for vert labrets and tongue piercings in terms of accidentally biting it and chipping a tooth, but that's less of a worry.
