I have a volunteer job that involves me being alone in an unlocked downtown house for several hours a week.

After the Brittany Zimmerman thing, my mother is freaking out about this. She's starting to make me paranoid.

Hm... you know, you're probably more likely to get hit by a car on your way to work than you are to get murdered. But you could just tell her that you'll lock the doors, or whatnot.

Are you not allowed to lock the doors at wherever you'll be? Am I missing something?

Yeah, I'm manning a sort of community center place, so I can't lock the doors.

The reason Mum's freaking out is that there've been two murders so far this year in that immediate area, both in the daytime, both in the victim's home.
