You know those "If you're going to eat $5..." commercials, where the chick eats the $5 bill?

At the bottom of the screen, the advertisers felt it necessary to put "Dramatization. Do not attempt."

I think common sense died with our parents' generation.

My favorite is the "Nutritionist Dramatization" disclaimer in the Eggland's Best commercial.

As in, like, "Warning: This is an ad, not real life?" Yow.

I wonder if all of these stem back eventually to that woman who sued McDonald's because her coffee was hot(!). (Did that even actually happen, or is it just an urban legend? I'm fairly sure the dude who sued McDonald's because they made him fat was real...)

They probably have that story on snopes.com (love that site...)

/me puts on nerd hat

It did happen, but it was not a case of frivolous litigation. McDonald's served coffee at just below boiling temperatures in their drive-thru so that the coffee would still be hot when you got to your destination. The coffee cup collapsed and spilled scalding hot coffee in this woman's lap, giving her third degree burns and scarring her legs, genitals, and buttocks. She had to undergo skin grafting and treatment for two years.

I believe the details are on Snopes as well.

Note: I do believe that we need to have serious tort reform, but this oft-cited example is not a good source for that argument :)
