Anyone who works around Peace Park sees their share of crazies being arrested, that's par for the course. I've seen three arrests in the past couple weeks.
Today was something special, though. I heard shouting and poked my head out the door, saw a man being rather forcefully held up against a cop car by two officers. They finally got him in the car, I went back to work. Not too crazy, right? A few minutes later, we heard sirens and saw a few police cars out front, so I poked my head out again. Four cop cars, five cops pulling this guy out of the car and
pinning him to the ground. Apparently he'd been trying to kick the window out, even though he didn't have any shoes on. I watched for maybe five or ten minutes total, the guy was screaming obscenities the whole time. Finally they got both his arms and legs restrained, and all five cops (there'd never been fewer than four on him at any given time) lifted him back into the car. A couple people started applauding when they closed the car doors.
He wasn't a Peace Park regular, and didn't seem too messed up, just angry as hell. I'll be keeping my eye on the Madison Police Incident Report page to see what pops up.
'Cause god damn, that was one of the craziest things I've ever seen on State Street.
