so, officially, i'm not going to Lumos. next time, eh? indeed.

you know how i mentioned a while ago that i hadn't read HBP yet? well i've finally started it, and i love it. reading this book fills me with complete and utter glee, regardless of the specific topic. (so far.) today at lunch i got through this part and felt the urge to post it here, ( Read more... )

*sigh* mostly because of work. i only have 2 days off for the rest of the year aside from my pre-scheduled time during the holidays, and i don't wanna call in sick because i'm trying to get promoted. also, it'd be like $1000 for the whole trip, and that's just more than i really want to be spending at this point, especially since i'm realistically thinking of moving back to CA in the near future. but, i think and hope that i will go to the next one. cuz, shit, it would be sooo fun!!! gah.

word up. :D

so, um, i'm lame. i just realized last night that i never ordered the desa guy for you. (i had a lot on my mind when i got home from that trip.) i totally wanted to get it for you, but i know you said you wanted to buy it in person, and they are playing in sf this month. so i figured i'd ask you: would you rather buy it from them, or would you like me to order it? if you want to buy it yourself i'm sure i can think of something else to get you, so whatever you want is fine -- just let me know. sorry i suck sometimes. :\

dude, harry's a fuckin badass there. i'm so glad you agree, and liked that scene too! yay for kindred spirits ♥

this was totally the best ever: "He tried interfering at Hogwarts. You might have noticed he's not Minister anymore, but Dumbledore's still headmaster." !!! my heart soared, and i was like, 'fuck yeah, harry! you tell that son of a bitch!!' haha! it's so, so good. :D

you think i'm going to like your fic?!? i'd've thought that'd be obvious by now. ;) gah! if you keep telling me about it, i'm going to be forced to bug you about it til i get to read it! :P you have no idea how excited i am!!

OMG, i do love HBP. i think it's my favorite, though i could be slightly biased by the H/D obsession. ;) hehehe. i had forgotten how much i love these books, as i haven't actually read canon since last summer, when i started to reread in preparation for Book 6. (lot of good that did, eh?) JKR may not be the best writer technically speaking, but she has a damn awesome sense of humor and an unbelievably amazing imagination.

You know, I've been thinking about Harry, a lot, and I think I love most the fact that physically, he's all there. Emotionally, he's completely lost. (so adorable that) and mentally, he's sharp in a lot of areas, that most people I've noticed tend to see him as not being observant enough about. He IS NOT DUMB, and he isn't just a 'jock' type... he's got too much of an inner Slytherin, and I have to go back to what the Sorting Hat said, not a bad mind either...Harry could have been sorted into any of the houses and made it work, I think. Just because he's got emotional wounds from being abused doesn't make him mentally impaired when it comes to observation. /soapbox ( ... )

Heh heh, brace yourself. I don't know if you think JKR walks on water or not, but I haven't touched the books again since the first time I read them. I love Harry, I love the universe... obviously... but reading this excerpt brings home what I've been saying all year, we have writers who are just as good, if not better, in fandom, within H/D, do we not? I mean the actual sentences themselves, the timing, the rhythm... well, that's my opinion anyway. Feel free to say it's blasphemy, that we stand on her shoulders, but then... isn't that what Newton said about himself? :P

hahaha. oh, no worries, i completely agree! i was just saying similar to rubymoth, in fact. JKR's not a great writer, but she is a fantastic storyteller. i've been deliberately making that distinction since i started reading (and loving) the series. you're absolutely right, also, that there are immensely [more] talented authors in H/D fandom; it's quite amazing, really, to be surrounded by such artistry. i am consistently humbled and appreciative. ♥

Thank you! I've said this to a handful of people, including my mom, and they don't seem to understand the difference. I'm a big fan of wordsmiths like Ru - girls got mad skillz, gives me chillz. :P :P Then you have your plotsmiths like SA. *loves fandom*

Love that icon, dude. If I had more slots, I would steal it. M.

hehe. indeed! if i ever made a list of favorites, Ru and SA would definitely be on it. i love the 'serious' writers, who really [not to be entirely cliche, but] take time to care about the craft.

thanks!! :D i was totally proud of it & pleased as punch when the idea randomly struck me the other day, but nobody had commented on it yet. glad i'm not the only one who can appreciate it. :)

Okay, so this is a really old post, and by now I'm sure you've already finished HBP and vomited over the H/G bits and whatnot, but I just wanted to come by and say how very, very much I agree with you on this! With the exception of the Ginny stuff, I LOVED HBP!Harry! He's cool and collected and full of attitude and knows what he believes in. He's got balls! I love it! :)

omg, yes, the H/G was horrible! it seriously made me feel ever so slightly nauseous every time it came up. blech. :\

yes! harry in HBP was awesome. i'm extremely passionate about politics, and it's a major turn-on to see people getting all righteous about things that are important to them. (a major reason why i love jon & stephen so much, heh.) i think HBP was actually my favorite, though it's hard to say since i haven't read the others in over a year. i can't seem to pull myself away from fic long enough to do another re-read. ;)
