CHAPTER THIRTEEN
"You gave up your apartment for this?" Jensen asked of Steve, as soon as Chris was done giving them the guided tour.
"Just needs a little cleaning, is all. Hey, I moved here because I get a backyard. And to be with my buddy," he added, seeing the look Chris gave him.
The house was tidy enough. Steve was right, it needed a little cleaning and maybe a bit of patching up in the paint department, but for three college students and a musician, it was perfect. Chris had told them that the other two men who would be sharing the house with them had not yet arrived, that they were coming that weekend. Even so, Jensen could tell that Chris and Steve had already made their mark on the place. Steve had four guitars and Chris had three, and these were scattered throughout every room in the house. The shower curtain in the bathroom bore a print of Johnny Cash, presumably so it didn't feel left out.
"What time do we start?" Jared asked, slinging his arm around Jensen's shoulders.
"Gig starts at nine. Figured we could head on out and get a few drinks before we start setting up. Steve said he'll get some beers in."
"So what're we waiting for?"
"Is beer all you think about?" Jensen asked, nudging into Jared's side with his elbow.
"Huh uh. Just every six seconds. Rest of the time I'm thinking about sex. And bikes. And sometimes both at the same time." Jared grinned wide and Jensen fought the urge to wipe it off with a kiss. Chris wouldn't care about watching them, but Steve would probably make comments, ribbing them for it. He just wanted to have a good time tonight, without being the center of attention.
Apparently, as he found out later, nobody else got that memo.
The party was pretty much what Jensen had expected it to be. The lighting was low, there were plenty of dark corners, and the beer was flowing freely. The floor was uncarpeted and sticky from years of use and the place thrummed with an energy that coursed through every person there. Chris and the band were set up on a small stage out in the backyard and people spilled into the house from outside, packing the place out. It looked to be some kind of fraternity hosted welcome party and Jensen could see the importance of such a gig to Chris. It would make his name at the college. Chris would find that the difference between here and high school was that here, nobody would care who his friends were. They'd like him because he had a talent, because they liked his music, because he was the guy from the party whose name and face people would actually remember.
Jared kept a tight hold on Jensen, an arm wrapped around his waist to hold him so close that Jared's belt buckle dug into the base of his spine. He didn't complain. Nobody seemed to care and he liked that safe feeling of being in Jared's hold. When Chris and Steve began playing, Jared moved with it, and Jensen had little choice but to sway along with him. He leaned his head back against Jared's shoulder, smiling.
"I love this one," he said, though Jared couldn't have heard him over the music. They danced, slowly, and drank beer, and Jared's hand wandered over Jensen's body. He was so lost in it that he almost didn't hear Chris calling him on-stage towards the end of the gig. Jared nudged him away, grinning as people started looking at him and cheering, for no other reason than Chris had pointed him out.
He shook his head, but Chris didn't give up. He announced to everyone there that Jensen was his good buddy and that they would sing the last number together. Still protesting, Jensen joined the band and mouthed a few insults at his friend before he was dragged over to the mic. He recognized the song immediately, though the last time he'd sung it had been right before the first night he'd spent with Jared. Memories came flooding back from when they'd first met, and he barely noticed that he was singing as he thought about everything that had brought them to this point. Already, it had been nearly a year. In just a year he had become someone completely different to who he was back then.
They all had, he thought.
The song died down and Chris was hugging him, Jared was staring at him with an expression of hunger that was all too familiar, and Steve was already off the stage and had a small brunette making a bee-line for him. It was clear that Jensen, Chris and Jared would have the house to themselves that night. Judging by the look on Jared's face, it was going to be quite a long one.
They had a couple more beers, since people kept offering them, and then Chris grabbed his guitar and slung it over his shoulder, announcing that he needed to go home.
Jared, laughing to himself over God-knew-what, offered to walk him there, which seemed ridiculous to Jensen since that was where they were staying. He was being held tightly by his boyfriend, though, and could only follow where Jared led. They left the bar in a huddle, leaning on each other during the slow five-block walk to Chris and Steve's place. They'd left no lights on outside and it took Chris a couple of tries to get the key in the lock. He almost dropped his guitar, but Jared caught it and then caught Chris in his other arm as he stumbled back from the door.
"Thanks," Chris mumbled, but didn't move when Jared didn't let go. Jensen felt sweat prickling his skin and warmth flood his cheeks as he watched Jared pull Chris back to him as well, his hand slipping round the buckle of Chris's belt.
"Hmm," Jensen said, blinking. This was new.
Then Chris got the door-handle down and it opened and the three of them made it into the hallway. Chris headed straight for the kitchen and came back with a large bottle of water. They shared it between the three of them, tossed the empty bottle on the floor, and then stood there, leaning against opposite walls and looking at one another. Jensen was right next to Jared, aware in every muscle in his body of the hand that was slowly stroking back and forth beneath his shirt. He moaned, pushing his hips out, and Chris licked his lips.
"Here we are then," Jared said. "Just the three of us."
Jensen's breath hitched. "What... What's your point?"
"We're three consenting adults. All into dick."
"You're drunk," Chris told him.
"A little bit. But so are you. Tell me it's not crossed your mind. Me, you, Jen. Just for fun."
Jensen caught his lip between his teeth, looked at Chris. He wanted to apologize, but, from the look in Chris's eyes, there was really no need.
"I'll start, if it makes it easier." He got them both to follow him to the lounge, sat them down on the couch and settled onto the cushion between them. He started out kissing Jensen, one hand resting on Chris's knee. His tongue tasted like beer and Jensen closed his eyes, trying not to think about anything but this. At a gasp from Chris he pulled away, leaned forward to see the cause of it. Jared's hand was pressed between Chris's legs, squeezing gently at his crotch. Jensen felt his stomach flip with arousal when he saw that.
"Jen, is this okay?"
He met Jared's eyes, nodded. He was glad Jared had asked, hadn't realized how hot it could be to watch.
"Chris, how about you? Are you okay with it?"
Chris could only nod, his mouth gaping. Jared turned away from Jensen, swinging a leg across Chris and straddling his lap. He pulled him forward into a kiss and Jensen moved closer to watch, to see better. Jared's tongue curled round into Chris's mouth, forcing him to open up to it, and Jensen knew how that felt. He knew what it was like to be kissed without mercy, when Jared wouldn't take no for an answer. Jared grasped at Chris's tee, started pulling it up, and he let his mouth go for only a second while he got the shirt over the other man's head, then he was there again. Jensen moved to take Jared's shirt off for him too and Jared pulled back again, dumping it on the floor. Then he ran a hand down the center of Chris's chest, a dirty smile on his lips.
"I got a suggestion to make," he said. "Cause this has to be what we all want."
"What's that?"
"I think we should make tonight all about Jensen."
Jensen swallowed hard as Jared looked at him. "What?"
"Yeah, it makes the most sense. Pretty sure Chris here is more about you and not me. And we all know who I'm in love with. So I think-"
"I agree," Chris interrupted. "Ain't fair otherwise."
"But what about-?" Jensen was cut off by Jared leaning over and planting a quieting kiss on his mouth.
"Get naked," he was told. "We're taking this to the bedroom." Jared got up from Chris's lap and pulled the other man to his feet. Then he pushed his boots off, eyeing Jensen as he stood too. They made it down the hallway and into Chris's room, where Jared stripped Jensen naked and Chris pushed him back onto the bed, a hand on the center of his chest as he followed Jensen down. Chris kissed him, letting go when Jared got onto the bed on the other side of Jensen and ran fingers down his ribs.
Jensen watched Jared from heavy-lidded eyes, breathing heavy already from the touches to his skin. Jared shifted down, pressing open-mouthed kisses to Jensen's chest and stomach. When his mouth closed around Jensen's dick, the younger man's hips lifted from the mattress and he moaned loudly. Jared let go to grin up at Chris, who was also watching him.
"He's noisy," he said. "Want to bet how loud we can make him scream?"
Jensen pushed Jared's shoulder, laughing. "Fuck you."
"It's true. I'll prove it." With that his mouth sank down again, until the head of Jensen's cock nudged the back of his throat and Chris was swiping his tongue over Jensen's nipple, swirling around the metal bar pierced through it. Jared was right. The noise was impressive. Especially when he slid his fingers down, pushing between Jensen's legs. Jensen had one hand around Chris's shoulder, his fingertips digging in hard, and he had one hand on the top of Jared's head, clutching at his short hair and trying not to push him down.
Jared was swallowing, humming around Jensen's dick, and was rewarded with a reverberating cry when Jensen came down his throat moments later. He pulled back, releasing him, and swallowed his mouthful before leaning down and licking up more. Chris was kissing the side of Jensen's neck, sending shivers chasing over his skin. Jared moved up, gripping Jensen's hip and then joining their mouths in a hot kiss. Jensen's tongue pushed into his mouth, searching out the taste of his orgasm.
It wound down slowly, and after a while Jensen got up from the bed and went to use the bathroom, then retrieved his jeans and pulled them up his legs. He crawled back onto the bed between Jared and Chris and turned onto his side, closing his eyes when he felt Jared press to his back. It was hot with their three bodies so close together and he fell asleep quickly, exhausted.
Jared whispered to Chris over him, "I think we wore him out."
"Definitely," came the quiet reply. "Hey, Jay? Thanks. You didn't have to-"
"I know that you two were together. Before. And it doesn't bother me, you know? This is just... It's a thing that'll maybe happen again, but probably won't. Just a-"
"I get it," Chris interrupted. "Jen loves you."
Jared looked down at the man sleeping between them, gently brushed his fingers over Jensen's cheek. "Yeah. But he loves you too."
"It's not the same," Chris reminded him. "Not even close."
When Jensen woke up, it was already light outside. Looked like it had been for some time, too. He looked over at Chris, who was flat on his back and sleeping soundly, and then moved his hand down to touch his fingers to Jared's knuckles. He smiled when Jared kissed the back of his neck.
"I love you."
Surprised, Jensen eased onto his back too, until Jared was leaned against him and looking down at him. He was smiling, looking like the cat that got the cream.
"I love you too," Jensen replied, his head lifting up slightly when Jared kissed him. "Were you awake long?"
"Not too long. You were making these sounds... I didn't want to disturb you."
"I was dreaming about you."
Jared's dimples deepened as he grinned wider. "I figured. Sounded pretty hot."
"Yeah, well. You are pretty hot."
Beside them, at the sound of their conversation, Chris was stirring. His eyes opened slowly and he turned his head to look at them. "Hmm. Morning."
"Morning," Jensen replied. "You guys want breakfast?"
"Jen, you don't have to-"
"After last night? I think you both deserve a thank you. I'll go make some. You stay here and I'll bring it to you."
"Man, I got the best boyfriend in the world," Jared stated, settling back once Jensen was up and off the bed. "Don't be long. I'm famished."
"I won't be." Jensen left them both alone, knowing that they probably wouldn't stay put for a long time. He'd cook something quick, before Jared managed to talk Chris into some kind of tournament on the Xbox that had been Chris's graduation gift from his grandparents. He found everything that he needed to make some french toast and a pot of coffee and then set about it. He'd just got everything onto plates when his phone rang from his jeans pocket, the sudden noise startling him. He didn't recognize the ringtone as any one personal tone, but he recognized the voice on the other end when he answered.
"Where's Jared? Why's his phone switched off?"
"I think the battery ran down. Do you want him?"
"I think you'd both better get over here. Not... To the hospital, I mean. It's happening."
Jensen had already guessed what he meant just from the excitement in the man's voice. He said they'd be right over and hung up. He turned the coffee pot off, and the stove, and abandoned the food to hurry back to the bedroom, halting only to scoop up Jared's shirt on the way.
"Where's the food?" Jared started, but stopped when Jensen threw his shirt at him.
"Get dressed. Both of you. We've got a birth to get to."
Jeffrey hung up the payphone and quickly headed after his wife. He hated seeing her hurting and right now she was, but he had tried to touch her, to soothe her, on the ride over and had nearly gotten his hand crushed.
"Get off me," she had panted, looking wilder than he'd ever seen her. "This is all your fault!" He'd hung back, the EMT assuring him that Stevie didn't mean it, and that this wasn't the worst thing he'd ever heard. Stevie had fixed him with a glare too, and told him he was just the same.
She had been moved to a bed when he got there, and there was a nurse by her side as they got her into a more comfortable position. Jeffrey went straight to her, ignoring personal safety as he took her hand in his. She nearly crushed his fingers for him in return.
"I said don't touch me," she told him, speaking through gritted teeth. Jeff pulled his hand away, flexing his fingers.
"I know, baby, but-"
He was cut off as she fell back to the bed, crying out with the pain of another contraction. Jeffrey watched her and hoped his boys would arrive soon.
Jared rode quicker than usual, which had Jensen hanging on for his life. They'd lost Chris a few blocks ago, but he knew which hospital they were heading to so they were sure he'd meet with them there. Jared parked the bike between two others, taking a quick look at them as he took off his helmet and waited for Jensen to do the same. They tucked them under their arms and walked into the reception area side by side. Jared didn't even ask where he had to go, he just went straight to the desk and past it. They found Jeffrey pacing in the hallway beyond, looking agitated. He sagged with relief when he saw them, pulling Jared into a hug and thanking God they were both there.
"One of you go in and talk some sense into her, please. I think she hates me."
"She doesn't hate you," Jared assured him, and pushed open the door to Stevie's room. He was in there less than a minute before he came out again, shaking his head. "Wow. You're really not her favorite person right now."
"What did you say to her?" Jeff demanded.
"You kidding? I couldn't even get close enough to talk to her. You married a goddamn psycho."
Jensen, amused up till now, moved Jared aside and went into Stevie's room himself. She was laid back on a pile of pillows, her legs pushed apart while a nurse measured the dilation. She was pale and sweating, and trying to breathe as she had been shown. She met Jensen's eyes, looking like she wanted to yell again, but no longer had the energy. Jensen pulled up a chair to her bedside, but didn't sit down.
"So, I hear you hate Jeff."
Stevie rolled her eyes, shook her head.
"I know you don't. Not really. It's just not fair that he gets to sit and watch while you do all the work. But just think about after she's born. You get to take it a bit easier then. Let him do more for you."
Stevie sighed. "He's done enough."
"I'm sure he's-"
"No, I mean it. He's... He's done so much and..." There were tears forming in her eyes and Jensen leaned down to let her wrap her arms around him, hugging him. It surprised him, how strong she was, and he pulled back before she had another contraction, thinking if she tensed up any she might kill him.
"You want me to get him back in?"
"I don't want to do this on my own," Stevie managed.
Jensen nodded, went over to the door and opened it to call Jeffrey back in. He came back in gingerly, but at the look on his wife's face he was at her side in a flash, kissing her even as she tried to apologise. "It's okay, sweetheart, really..." Jensen left them both alone, going back out into the hallway to find that Chris had made it and was stood against the wall next to Jared.
"Everything all right?"
He nodded, and they followed him down the hall to the reception area to sit and wait.
They were there for a couple of hours, Chris being the one to make sure they got something to eat during the morning since they'd missed breakfast. It was almost noon when the door finally opened again and Jeffrey came down the hall towards them, grinning. Jared was the first up, and they embraced, holding tight.
"You got a little sister, Jay. She's beautiful."
"Dude, you crying?" Jared asked, his smile cheeky.
"Shut up. I'm allowed."
"Congratulations," Jensen said, standing and rubbing his hands on the legs of his jeans. "She's okay?"
"They're both fine. Baby's small, but she's fine."
"So does she have a name?"
Jeffrey nodded, the grin back in even more force. "Yeah. And I'm kind of surprised Stevie agreed to it. Think I'm going to go fill in the forms before she changes her mind. You boys can go in. She'd love to see you in there."
As he went to speak to one of the nurses, Jared caught him by the arm and eyed him. "C'mon, old man," he said. "Tell us her name."
"Holly," Jeff replied, shaking his head like he was completely amused by it.
"And that's-"
"Holly Davidson."
"Bullshit."
"I'm serious. So you'd better be ready to teach her not to take any shit, boy."
"I don't know whether that's completely fucked up and cruel, or just the best thing I've heard all year..."
"It ain't changing, so you'd better get used to it." Jeff left them to it, and Jared stood in the middle of the reception, shaking his head and smiling.
"Holly Davidson," he chuckled. "My little sister."
