MASTER POST CHAPTER TWENTY-NINE
Three weeks. Three weeks since their day with Matty and they were still waiting to hear anything. It was taking its toll - on Jensen more than Jared, who was once again becoming the voice of reason, the pillar of strength that Jensen couldn't do without - and Jensen was well aware that October was already nearly half over and Kimberly had told them they'd know by now. But they knew nothing. They'd called Matty a few times and gotten to speak to him on the phone, ask how he was doing in school and so on, but now, for Jensen, that wasn't enough. He'd even told Jared that it was time to buy a car, instead of renting one, and they'd found something at the local used car lot. Now he just needed a reason to use it.
He had another day off today, his first in those three weeks, and Jared was over at the shop working on orders. He was busy and that only looked set to continue as they neared Christmas. Jensen had stayed in bed when Jared had left for work, opening his eyes just long enough to receive the kiss goodbye he was given before he drifted off again for another couple of hours. He'd been on night shifts, barely seeing Jared in a week, and he was grateful when he woke up mid-morning feeling fully refreshed again. He took a shower, let Maya out into the yard, and made himself a breakfast of pancakes and bacon.
After eating, doing dishes, and picking up around the house, Jensen threw a load of laundry into the machine and left it to wash while he went out to the garage. His Triumph was parked to one side of it, uncovered, and he spent some time polishing the bike up and checking everything on it. It gave him something to do, some way to waste time until he could go and meet Jared at the shop for lunch without disturbing him too much. They'd had a minor argument the previous night before Jensen had left for work - some stupid thing that Jensen didn't even care about now. He just knew he'd spent the first few hours of his shift quietly wishing he could take it back.
But Jared had kissed him this morning, he remembered. That was a good sign, at least. Maybe he was forgiven.
He knew he was when he made it to the shop. He parked up around back and left his jacket and helmet just inside the door, moving past the waiting customers and Jared's small team of workers until he found the man himself at the front of the shop. He was hunched over his laptop, putting the finishing touches to a design for something. Jensen moved to stand behind him and slipped his arms around the man's broad shoulders as he took a break, kissed the back of his neck. Jared didn't flinch, just moved his head to one side as he stopped working and grinned.
"Hey, you're awake."
"I hope so."
"You okay now?"
"Yeah, yeah I'm good. I can't even remember-"
Jared cut him off with another soft kiss, finding his mouth and parting Jensen's lips with a press of his tongue. He pulled away quietly, smiling. "Don't worry about it. You were tired."
"I'm still sorry for taking it out on you, though."
"Like you don't get your fair share of me being an asshole," Jared reminded him. "What did you do this morning?"
"Cleaned up. Laundry."
"God, I love you. If you say you're going grocery shopping after this, I will seriously give you the best head you've ever had tonight."
"I'm on the bike."
"We don't need much. I can give you my backpack to stow it in."
"Sure, okay. The best head ever, huh?"
"Oh yeah."
"I'll hold you to that."
Jared turned in his seat then, pulled Jensen forward between his open legs. Jensen eyed him, wary of Jared's face being almost level with his crotch.
"Oh, you meant right now?"
"Mm.." Jared leaned forward and pressed his mouth against Jensen's t-shirt, just over his navel. "Guess I'd better not."
"Well, I don't know about that. Are you ready for a lunch break?"
Jared looked back at his laptop and then up at Jensen again, and nodded. "I think I could be persuaded." He called out to one of his guys that he'd be in his office and Jensen followed him through the shop to the rear. Jared shut the office door behind them, closed the blinds on it, and shot Jensen a predatory grin. "How about an appetiser first?"
Jensen groaned. "Your pick-up lines never improve, do they?"
"Like I need to pick you up. Or..I could.." Jared stepped forward quickly and grabbed Jensen around the waist, pulled him up off the floor until he was over one shoulder. Jensen made a startled sound when he did, yelling when Jared threw him down onto the office's only couch and landed heavily on top of him.
"You ass! What the hell did you eat for breakfast, a ton of fucking bricks?"
"Cap'n Crunch, actually." Jared settled, getting himself comfortable, and then kissed Jensen gently as an apology. "Consider it payback for you being a superbitch last night."
"I could make it up to you easy."
"Mm, but I promised." Jared lifted up enough that he could reach down and fumble Jensen's jeans open. He pulled the denim apart, and wasted no time getting his hand where he wanted it - wrapped around Jensen's dick. Jensen moaned at the feel of it - he'd missed this over the past week for sure - and pulled Jared back down into another kiss. Jared teased him to complete arousal, slowly undressing him as he did. He heaped the clothes on the floor next to the couch and Jensen held the back of his head as Jared's mouth fastened onto him. He sucked around just the head at first, wetting it with the flat of his tongue, his hand wrapped tight around the rest. Jensen pushed his head down, though, and closed his eyes as he sank down further. His hand came down to play with Jensen's balls instead, and he let Jensen's dick slide from his mouth as he moved around to kiss them and suck at them, pulling them into his mouth.
Jensen was already plenty gone when Jared's mouth covered his dick again. His chest heaved, damp with sweat, and Jared was playing some dirty tricks to make him come undone faster than ever. It worked, too. He fucked up deep into Jared's throat and came, pulling at Jared's hair probably hard enough to hurt him. Jared didn't complain, though, just let Jensen pull him up into a rough and messy kiss. He still had a mouthful of Jensen's come and it spilled out into Jensen's mouth. He didn't care. He held Jared where he was and waited until he was calm again before he spoke.
"I missed that," he said, eventually.
"Me too. I hate the night shift."
Jensen laughed. "Me too."
"You want to stay a little while?"
"I want to eat lunch and then get the shopping out of the way. I figure I'll cook dinner for when you get home and we can slob around in front of the tv."
"Want me to pick up some beers?"
"Hell, yes. And later on I'll show you what the best head ever is meant to feel like." Jensen smirked, dodged out of the way when Jared tried to butt heads with him.
"Funny. It wasn't the worst ever though, was it?"
"Hmm... Nope. I guess it was up there in my top ten."
"At least." Jared got up then, letting Jensen up from the couch. He slapped the man's bare ass as Jensen leaned down to retrieve his clothes, and they both looked around as the office door opened. Jensen immediately grabbed his shirt and held it in front of his crotch, while Jared turned to their visitor with an annoyed glare. "What?"
The young guy at the door held his hand in front of his eyes and stuttered out an apology, already backing out into the shop. Jared followed, leaning in the doorway to block the view into his office.
"What?" he asked, again. "You disturb my lunch break, must be fuckin' important."
"Fernie's on the phone, boss. Wants to speak to you about-"
"Yeah, the Harley. Fine, okay, it's important. But next time you fuckin' knock. Got it?" Jared stepped back and slammed the door shut again, turning to find Jensen shoving his clothes back on. He smiled sheepishly. "Sorry."
"It's cool. You have to go?"
"I'll take the call and then we can-"
"Don't worry," Jensen said, fastening his jeans. He stepped up to Jared and kissed him. "I know you'll get busy. Make sure you have some lunch, though."
"I will."
Jensen watched him go, finished getting dressed and then left the shop himself. Grocery shopping, lunch out, and then home, he thought. Home to wait for Jared and try not to think about Matty and about how it was halfway through October and they still didn't know.
Jared arrived home not long after five. Jensen had called him to find out when he'd be back and so dinner was just ready as he walked through the door. There were piles of ironed clothes on the dining table, so they sat in the living room, with the tv on, while they ate. Maya curled up by Jared's feet, soon fast asleep. Jensen envied her for falling asleep so quickly.
"God, I hope I can do that tonight," he said, brushing the tips of his toes along the dog's back.
"If I let you."
"You'd better. Later, though. Obviously."
"Obviously."
"You should call Jeff. We haven't heard from him in a little while. I'd like to know what the kids want for Christmas."
"It's October."
"Your point? We need to get this shit sorted and out. Before we turn around and it's December 24th and nothing's done. We might have an extra in the house by then, Jay. We need to be organized."
"Yeah, yeah. Hey, are you going to tell me what you want from me for Christmas?"
Jensen rolled his eyes. "At the moment I'd settle for a phone call or a letter telling me that Matty's coming to us before the new year. But I know you can't do much about that, so just use your imagination."
"Last time I did that you ended up with a new tattoo."
"Nothing wrong with that. I ought to go visit Big G again and fill a few spaces. So should you."
"My skin's still all fucked," Jared said, rubbing at his scarred arm.
"Doesn't make you any less pretty, though," Jensen said, grinning widely.
"Did you just call me pretty?" Jared asked, wrestling him back down until he was on his back on the couch, head pillowed at one end.
"Yep. What're you gonna do about it?"
"Oh no, no way. It's my turn. We agreed."
"You agreed. I don't remember being involved in that dis-" He cut off with a soft 'mmph!' as Jared kissed him. Mumbled 'fine' into Jared's mouth and let him have his way.
Later, after a shower and a walk with Maya, they were both back on the couch again. Jensen sat with his legs up, feet pressed to Jared's thigh, talking on the phone, while Jared worked on something on his laptop. Jensen had called his mom, largely to guilt Jared into calling Jeff when he was done, and was now talking with his sister about how she was doing in college and when she and Phin might come visit again. She asked him about work, about Jared, and if maybe they could come back to Texas as well. At least for a few days.
"Chris misses you," she said. "We go out with him and Lynn and he's so goddamn mopey whenever I mention you that it's ridiculous."
"We can't plan to come back home yet. Not until we know what's going on with the adoption."
Kenzie sighed. "I know, I know. It'd just be nice to see you back here. People miss you."
"People miss Jay," Jensen said, frowning when Jared smacked his ankle for the remark. He retaliated by kicking his knee.
"No, trust me, they miss you too. I miss you. God, I hope you find out soon one way or the other. Then maybe I can persuade you to come home and if you have Matty, we'll finally get to meet him."
"Yeah, maybe."
"No maybe about it, Jensen. Don't forget that it won't just be you adopting him. He'll be my nephew. Mom's grandson. Or didn't that even occur to you?"
Jensen's pause was answer enough. He really hadn't thought about it like that. Matty would be getting a complete new family, not just two less-than-conventional fathers. "You're right," he said. "I'm sorry. As soon as we know if it's a yes then we'll bring him over to meet the rest of you."
"Promise me."
"I promise, dorkface."
"Good to hear it, nerdnuts."
"Original."
"I try." Jensen could hear the smile in Kenzie's voice and suddenly wished that he could go back home right then and visit her at college. He missed her. He missed his mom, too. "So what's Jared doing right now? Doesn't he want to talk to his second favorite person in the world?"
"He's busy looking at porn on the internet," Jensen answered, laughing when Jared reached for the phone.
"Gimme that," Jared said, snatching it out of Jensen's hand. Jensen protested, half-heartedly, but when Jared settled back and started talking to Kenzie himself, he gave in. Instead he just settled back and listened to Jared's side of the conversation, drifting off into a doze without even realizing it.
It was his cellphone that woke him up a little while later, startling him as it buzzed in his back pocket. He could hear Jared still on the other phone, although he'd moved into the kitchen to talk. He quickly fished his phone from his pocket and pressed the talk button, rubbing his eyes as he answered.
"Hi, Jensen! I hope I'm not disturbing you, and I'm sorry it's a little late."
"Hi, um.."
"Sorry! It's Kimberly. I wanted to call you straight away."
Jensen immediately sat up straighter, knocking something from the table in his eagerness. The noise made Jared look over and Jensen signalled him to come right over, to stop his own conversation. "Kimberly, sorry, I didn't recognize your voice. Uh, is it okay if I put you on speaker? Jared's at home too."
"Yes, absolutely. I need to speak to both of you."
"Just..just a second." Jensen's heart was pounding now and he swallowed thickly, feeling like he might throw up. He heard Jared say goodbye and hang up and then he reached to put his phone on the table, pressed the button for the speaker as Jared sat on the arm of the couch. "Okay, he's here."
"Who-" Jared started to ask. Jensen slapped his leg to shut him up and told Kimberly to go on.
"Okay, so we have everything back that we need now. We got the checks back for you both a few weeks ago. There's been a lot of back and forth to go through, but... I have some good news for you."
"Jesus Christ," Jensen murmured. He couldn't listen, he didn't want to. He didn't know why, but Jared wrapped an arm around him when he pressed his face to the other man's side and breathed in.
"Guys, Matty will be coming home with you in three weeks time. We have a lot of paperwork to go through so I'll need to see you both soon, but you're nearly there. Congratulations."
Jensen didn't hear what Jared said after that, barely noticed that he'd ended the call. He didn't notice until Jared gently prised him away and brushed both hands over his hair. "Hey," he said. "You with me?"
His eyes felt hot and he blinked, feeling like an idiot. "Yeah." He let out the breath he'd been holding. "Sorry."
"For what?"
"I'm just fucking-" Jensen stopped, swiped a hand over his face. "God."
"I told her we'll come by on your next day off. We'll get the papers filled out. We'll do everything we need to and then we'll just make sure we're ready."
Jensen nodded, although he didn't think they needed to make sure of anything. He was ready.
