I completely agree that college students or maybe even high school students should be required to take a class on visual representations of data. I personally wish I knew more about things like the best applications for graphs versus charts and tables, especially after my stint as a secretary. I was stunned at how little the quality assurance manager I had to work with knew about exactly that. She would make line graphs using only three points of data and present it to the people who made decisions about hospital-wide policies ( ... )

yeah, like i said, i wish this kind of course (it wouldn't even have to be "map" specific) were as common and promoted as freshman english. a lot of schools are starting programs to help students learn to work in small, discussiony groups, which can build interpersonal skills, but also just prepares them for the mindlessness and time-wasting of the "morning meeting ( ... )
