Well, today is a big day. Due to a ridiculous amount of pressure at the faire, I think I'm gonna sign up for a Facebook page - though there are a lot of caveats. It's gonna be faire-only, so I don't have to worry about most of my privacy concerns, and I plan to set it up with a very sparse profile using my faire name (if you don't know what that is

I wouldn't be so concerned as to use Opera, since you're keeping it to your Ren Fair life - I do think that's a great idea, so that you can focus on this circle, though you might want to be sure it's friendly for anime con friends you make too. Though more anime con people have livejournal, at least.

But I'm glad you're getting a Facebook! Now you can give people your page and keep in touch between events.

Oh, there was no way I was doing this if I couldn't keep facebook cookies away from the rest of my internet. Every page that has a "like" button can track you, and I'd rather not hand over all my data to facebook (or the NSA, though that seems trickier).

I'm not planning to use it for anime people because all the fun anime people I like to hang out with are either already my friends on LJ or are people I'm only gonna get to see at AX anyway (or both). But renfaires have this patchwork circuit around the midwest, and this seems to be the only way to find out when I might want to spend a weekend driving a few hours to go have fun playing dress up and having a good time.
