Besides (and perhaps including) my courses, the most significant event of my life this semester has been my mom's illness. As you probably know, she has multiple sclerosis and has had that for my entire life. She took an experimental MS medication in 1996-97, eventually released as Copaxone. I applied to Cornell's Master of Professional Studies in Applied Statistics program in order to delay my job search a year, learn cool statistical methods and software packages, get a higher paying job, and hang out with the kinds of people who have degrees like this. As July comes to a close, it becomes readily apparent how escapist I am being (to be polite). I did prepare for the working world in some ways.
