Bush fires

Oct 23, 2013 20:23

I know the world is watching Australia burn. We're sitting here, smoke all about, unable to open windows. A week ago we had a bush fire threaten our town, the perimetre was 92 kilometres. The firemen finally got it under control. And now the Blue Mountains and other towns nearby are burning. There hasn't been enough hazard reduction going on - ( Read more... )

We are watching :-) I even went to your local paper online a couple of days ago to check the sitch where you are, but didn't see about last week's close call. It's sad that they are taking down the WW II Memorial Pine.

People really suck. I'm glad they caught up with those boys. I'm sure they didn't really think it'd get out of hand, but no one does when they start these conflagrations, I don't think. They don't expect to be successful. :slapsthem:

I hate the smoke from the fires that get going here, so I feel for you. Try not to breathe too deep :-) And stay safe!

The smoke has cleared here, at least for now. We have had several fires up here the last few weeks. And some of them have been arson. *grrr*

Breathing is easier today, thank goodness.

What I find very irritating is that the 11 year old boy, and his father, gave everyone the finger when they walked from Court.

*sigh*

I fell so badly for everyone affected. What a tragedy.

It's so sad for everyone concerned. That there's good people in the world, like those fighting the fires, and those donating their time and money and goods, makes my heart glad.

Oh my goodness! Sorry sweet, I thought this was all happening miles from you. We saw the pictures of Sydney covered in smoke, and if you’ve got that hanging over you, it must be absolutely awful.

The Sydney fires and the Blue Mountain ones are a long way away but we have had several of our own fires, and some of them have come pretty close.

It's all over the place.

No smoke today, which is a good thing. But a wild wind so not good for the fires west of here.

Hugs

This West Aussie is keeping you all in my thoughts. We haven't had a major fire, but it's only a matter of time. :(
Stay safe.

Thanks, sweetie.

We're okay here, really. After watching what is happening down south, and having our own fires start up as well, it brings it home to how fragile life is.

The smoke has cleared so I guess the lake fire is contained. If only the people down south were so lucky.

You stay safe too. WA has had its share of fire...

I'm so glad to hear you're okay. Was wondering how close you were to the fires. They're so frighteningly unpredictable.

When I lived in a small wooded area, someone carelessly started a small trash fire that ended up racing down the hill toward our house, and I was petrified. Luckily, this little fire snuffed itself out at the bottom of the hill, but it could have just as easily turned into an inferno, if it had been just a little bit larger. That was enough to scare the daylights out of me, so I can't imagine what was going through your mind.

Wishing you well and safe, my dear.

*hugs*

Meep! That must have been terrifying.

We are safe and well. There are 50 fires burning, still, in NSW, but none are nearby and from what I have heard there aren't any homes at risk. Thank goodness.

No smoke in the air is a good thing.
