Ooooooh... there's a movie very similar to this... Before Sunrise, that's what it's called. You should Watch it! : D The sequel is called Before Sunset, but I don't think it's quite as good.
Wow..... soooo cool! I wish I was that good at talking to people when I'm traveling- I put up my personal space barriers when I'm going somewhere and completely miss out on stuff like this. Sad for me!
Start by contacting the organizers of the Battle of Bordentown re-enactment, to find out exactly which re-enactment regiments participated. Their site, this NJ Events site, and this news article mention the 3rd PA Lights (can't find official website for them) and His Magesty's 43rd Foot as the groups re-enacting, but perhaps other regiments participated. (The 4th New York also lists a Battle of Bordentown re-enactment on their calendar, with slightly different dates, so there may also have been multiple re-enactments of this battle, and he may have been in a different one.)
You could also search for re-enactment regiments specifically based in northern New Jersey counties; and you can obviously limit your search to regiments re-enacting the side he was re-enacting :-) Emily L is an experienced re-enacter and may have info on what regiments are out there. Contact the regiments, and ask if anyone by that description participates....
If he made all of his own clothing, I bet he's a Colonial! Try looking here (http://www.battleofbordentown.com/units-list.html). (I don't know how to embed stuff...not as fancy as wayman!) The 4th New York also looks promising! (Man, I wished that one listed member names, as some do!) I think wayman covered most of the places I would look, but I can contact a sutler/merchant that I know and see if he was there as well!
He sounds awesome! Hope you have luck tracking him down!
