The great thing about compulsively reading anything that feels at all like medical anthropology is that you never lack for reading material.

The bad part is that some of your reading material is REALLY FUCKING TERRIFYING.

I agree that the article is totally fascinating - I'm sorry your life is conspiring to make it terrifying. But you're too young for that disease, at least!

I also love that it uses my favorite just-learned Italian word, the explosively clueless "bo?"

Insomnia is often a self-perpetuating problem, as the fear of sleeplessness keeps you awake. If you don't want to go to a doctor for a prescription sleep aid, try melatonin (2 - 3mg) &/or benadryl (25 - 50 mg). Benadryl is sedating; melatonin tells your body it's time to be/stay asleep (so benadryl takes you out and melatonin keeps you down). In the more herbal realm, there's calms forte, warm milk, and or turkey (ie, triptophan). Usually one or two nights of assisted sleep break the cycle, so you don't have to keep taking anything.
