hmm how to say this...
oh wait....
I know!!
OMG THIS BOOK ROCKED HARD!!!!!!!
I was never a fan of the Teen titans. In fact I was never a fan of any book whose main characters weren't adults. I always found them to be unbelievable and boring.
Yes, I am aware I am talking about a book dealing with people who fly and shoot rays out of their eyes as unbelievable due to the character age... deal with it :)
This Teen titans is a reboot of the team as a whole.
As far as i can tell here the Teen Titans never existed before this. There is no Titan Tower (thank the gods) Cyborg was never a member of the team... nothing...
In the new DCU Red Robin decides it is time to put a team together of his peers because on their own the teenage heroes are a PR nightmare. Between not thinking things through and not fully understanding their powers there have been some major faux pas in the cameras eye.
This first issue is basically giving us that back story and then having Red Robin recruit some of his team.
Let's hit the characters we meet in this book one by one shall we?
First we meet Kid Flash. At this time I can not tell you who this is in the costume but he is arrogant, reckless, and impetuous. His costume is clearly home made and he is clearly in this for the kicks more than anything else.
Next we meet Tim Drake, A.K.A. Red Robin. There is not a ton of change int he personality of Tim here. he is a mini Bruce Wayne with perhaps a little more Vigilante a little less hero. His new Costume is WAY better than the one before the reboot IMO.
Then we go over to Cassie Sandsmark. You might know her better as WonderGirl.
This is perhaps the largest change of personality we see so far. This girl is a total wild child with little respect for the concept of personal belongings. At least where it pertains to other persons anyway. She is on the run living it up while never staying in one place.
Lastly, we meet Superboy. The last two pages of this book are pretty much exactly the last two pages of the Superboy book. These two are likely to be very closely linked for at least the first story arc.
The primary bad guys in this book seem to be a new covert organisation that we have seen in several books in the NEW DCU called N.O.W.H.E.R.E. ( I didn't name it)
At this time we do not know a ton about the group other than they do not like Aliens and are trying to gather as much meta power to themselves as they can.
I recommend this book highly.
Great writing, great art. Compelling take on older characters.
This book is made of win.
