Retail fun!

So...I've started to get used to people coming up and asking me "Do you work here?" I mean...one would think the bright, safety orange back belt I wear would give it away...or the fact that I'm stocking the shelves. I've noticed that people are most likely to ask me that in my own store, while in other stores, whether it's the current all-black-with-purple-apron uniform or previous khakis-with-polo-shirt uniforms, people will just come up to me and start asking me questions.
And, they're less likely to ask, when I'm in my store, if I'm NOT wearing the apron, especially if I have my purse over my arm.
