so, this is just something that i was wondering...but how significant is Martin Luther King Jr. Day to places that aren't in the south? i see it's significance in the South (especially in alabama), but what does it mean to someone in Utah or some place like that?

i don't know why, but i was pondering that at dinner tonight

what it means to someone in Arizona... reclusive_hero January 18 2004, 18:29:46 UTC
it basically means a day off i suppose.

quite a few years ago in arizona there was a vote on whether or not we should recognize it as a holiday. and it ended up being
opposed...and so we didn't "celebrate" it...but...that cost us the superbowl that year and voters didn't like that...so a few years later when the vote came around again...they approved it and now we recognize it as a holiday and the schools aren't in session. i have to work but whatever. it was basically only approved because it makes us look better and voters wanted the superbowl. pretty lame tho? not lame that it should be recognized as a holiday but lame because we did it for selfish reasons.
