Thank you! I'm so glad it wasn't too confusing or subtle and I'm really relieved that you enjoyed it! :)

(Ha! I didn't realize what had actually happened in this fic until i was typing out how nice it was to see Mary and Mrs. Hughes interaction, because they hadn't interacted much since...oh. ;p I see what you did there. :)

You come up with the most creative ideas, and they're always so well-written. :D I'm never going to look at that scene the same way again...hee! :)

Another memorable, beautifully written fic: subtle and lovely. You have so much respect for your readers not to spell everything out, and I think that's a real talent (you do it so well). :) Keep writing!!! :D

HEHE - Whatever did they put in those sandwiches! silverducks July 12 2011, 15:04:48 UTC
I hope Mrs Patmore had given Mrs Hughes the recipe for her proposal inducing sandwiches! Then her tea shop will help all the hapless customers in the village. Maybe Mrs Hughes should give some to Mr Carson. I am curious how he'll find Mrs Hughes opening a tea shop...

Anyway, lovely idea and very well written!

See, in my (crazy) headcanon, Mrs. Hughes is the one who has the secret recipe. She is, after all, the one who made sure sandwiches were made the first time around (and housekeepers were technically responsible for organizing the afternoon tea, if Edwardian Manor House is to be believed)! :)

I think there is room for more story here - where does Mrs. Hughes get her skills, how does Mary find out, why hasn't the sandwich magic been tried/worked on Mr. Carson, and, as you mentioned, how Mr. Carson reacts to the tea shop opening. If anyone else is inspired...

Haha, I'm sorry if it was confusing at first, but I'm so glad you figured out what I was implying. I was rather worried I'd made it too subtle and unclear and I obviously couldn't be a good judge since I knew exactly what I was trying to convey. I do like to leave things to the reader, though sometimes I'm unsure if I've struck the right balance.

I'm not sure if it's a good think I've changed the way you look at the scene though!

And thank you as always for the lovely encouragement! :)

Ahaha great idea and very delicately executed! :D

I love this version of events, though can't help feeling a little sorry for Matthew! Oh well. He probably didn't like Lavinia much anyway!

More plausible than bunnies anyway... :S

Haha, I'm glad you enjoyed. And yes, I do feel sorry for Matthew but then again, if he never knows and thinks he is happy, does it matter...? *pretends she does not spot any ethical holes in that argument* We'll also pretend Lavinia is just a delusional phase!

And bunnies! I love bunnies! Will spend all my time until s2 awwwwing over bunnies after that fabulous fic!

Thanks for the kind comments! :)
