So John has a relapse of malaria sometime toward the beginning of the partnership. He knows the drill, he has his meds, and he figures Sherlock won't want anything to do with him until he's back on his feet and useful again. Sherlock finds him while he's a feverish, sweating, shivering mess, and proves him wrong.

This is totally what I wanted and more! \o/
You rock. I loved poor John all confused and yet still marginally annoyed that he was being used as a "lab rat," but it was totally the perfect stratagem because otherwise he'd never have let Sherlock near him anyway. And, aww, Sherlock, needing to see actual, physical proof that John was getting better. ♥
