Colds, flu, infections, insect-borne pathogens. Poisons, curses, spells.

Chills, sweats, delirium, hallucinations.

Huddling for warmth. Cool cloths. Unanticipated handsiness.

Delirious confessions of love. Confessions of love while the other person is unconscious.

Repressed memories rising to the surface.

The possibilities are endless.

BBC Sherlock, John ratherastory May 6 2012, 13:48:26 UTC
John's been all over the world, in combat as a medic, etc. Let's pretend he was trapped for a while in an area where malaria is endemic and ran out of prophylactic drugs, okay?

So John has a relapse of malaria sometime toward the beginning of the partnership. He knows the drill, he has his meds, and he figures Sherlock won't want anything to do with him until he's back on his feet and useful again. Sherlock finds him while he's a feverish, sweating, shivering mess, and proves him wrong.

Gen, slash, whatever. :)

This is probably not quite what you were thinking of, but it DOES feature John with malaria and Sherlock "trying" to show John that he's still "useful" XDDDD ( ... )

"You can't possibly," John started. "Oh, god, no, I'm so not up for anything even resembling sexual activity right now ( ... )

A week passed in much the same fashion: wracking fevers and chills every two days, exhausted sleep in between the bouts of delirium. When John was both awake and lucid, which was perhaps one hour out of every twenty-four, Sherlock was always there, applying a wet cloth if John was hot, lying next to John's shivering body and holding him if he was cold. And always talking, prattling on about his latest case, or about the unsolved case from years ago, the one with the malaria patient. Sometimes John envied the man, being free of the misery of this disease as well as of Sherlock's endless rambling that hurt his head ( ... )

"... guess that's it." John leaned against the wall heavily. His exhausted body was making it extremely clear to him that it hadn't finished replacing all the red blood cells that the malaria had chewed through, and his little journey was starting to prove itself possibly beyond his current energy reserves ( ... )

oh that's fabulous! what a perfectly Sherlockian way of showing his loving care :) Plus, if you don't know already how much I love a good malaria fic, let me tell you now!

You're up on master list. If you de-anon and post to AO3 remember you can put it in the Running Hot collection there.

Very glad you liked it! It needs a lot of editing before I de-anon :) but I'll definitely add it to the collection if I whack it into shape. :)

Thanks for reading~

Hello, beloved anon!

*glomps you*

This is totally what I wanted and more! \o/

You rock. I loved poor John all confused and yet still marginally annoyed that he was being used as a "lab rat," but it was totally the perfect stratagem because otherwise he'd never have let Sherlock near him anyway. And, aww, Sherlock, needing to see actual, physical proof that John was getting better. ♥

Do let me know when you de-anon so I can read it again! :D
