If you care about the outcome of the healthcare reform bill, and live in Jason Altmire's district, I urge you to contact him with your views.

He is currently on the fence with regard to this issue. You can read more about it here: http://kdka.com/local/Jason.altmire.vote.2.1570365.html

I've already emailed him my opinion.  You can do the same by ( Read more... )

I've been trying for days to leave a message at any one of his three offices. No luck.

But I don't think it matters; Mr. Altmire knows full well how his constituents feel. He knew it back in November, and health care reform has dropped in popularity since then.

He needs to decide whether he is going to vote based on the opinions of his constituents, or the opinion of the Democratic party.

It is not an enviable position.

That's why I emailed instead of calling. I figured the phone lines would be swamped.

As far as how his constituents feel... I'm not so sure where the majority stand, given that the district is a mix of upscale suburban, blue collar working class and rural. Remember that it covers Beaver and Butler counties as well as northern Allegheny and out as far as Aliquippa. I'm pretty sure you and I are on opposite sides of this issue. It's definitely a swing district, but the ratio of Democrats to Republicans has been increasing in the last few years. We'll just have to see.

I believe that our district is majority Democrat, but this issue doesn't go on staight party lines. I base my conclusion on polls from November, which Mr. Altmire used to defend his "no" vote at that time.

And yes, I suspect that we are on opposite sides of this one. I believe that there is a true need for reform, but I have grave reservations about the specifics of the current bill(s).
