I am thinking of doing some flooring and cabinet work in the bathroom and flooring in the kitchen as well. For the flooring, I am thinking of going with Laminate, as it seems relatively durable and not too difficult. To that end ( Read more... )

Damn. My brain must not be at full efficiency. For all the times I watch HGTV, I hadn't thought as yet to look there for bathroom furnishings.

1 - Yes. It won't be that big of difference, but it will change your numbers.

2 - Are you going to DIY? If so, stick with something similar. Plumbing is a very unforgiving art, which makes it very frustrating to learn by experimenting. So, if the piping only comes one foot from the corner, then bends up to the sink, you're not going to want your new sink 4 feet away on the other wall. I don't know of any place that specializes in affordable pre-made vanities, so Home Depot and Lowes may be your best bet. You can also look for places that specialize in kitchen remodeling. It's the same skill set as far as plumbing and cabinets are concerned.

3 - Once the old floor is gone, you should probably be able to slide the new tiles underneath the moulding. Just be sure to use a silicon sealant around the bottom edge to keep water and condensation from leaking under everything (especially around the tub).

4 - A utility knife, a metal ruler, and someone with big biceps.
