I thought you'd never ask.

First up is Kim Newman's The Hound of the D'Urbervilles. This book follows the evil schemes of Sherlock Holmes villain Professor Moriarty, as written by his henchman Sebastian Moran. What are you reading?

1. Left for Dead by Peter Nelson: the story of how a sixth-grader started the ball rolling to get the captain of the USS Indianapolis exonerated.

2. The Reluctant King by Sarah Bradford: biography of George VI (Elizabeth II's father)

3. The Cocoanut Grove fire by Stephanie Schorow: what it says on the tin -- the story of the fire at the Cocoanut Grove nightclub in Boston on 28 November 1942

The Shadow Ops thing does look good. As a rule, I tend not to get excited about military scifi, but I read the intro, and it kept me interested, so I might pick it up at HPB next time we're out there. I'm not actually reading much of anything right now. Seems like every time I try, something happens to get me distracted, and with my memory the way it is, usually by the time I get back to a story I have to reread the last chapter just so I can try to remember what happened before I left off. I used to be a very avid reader, but at this point I'm doing well just to keep up with the Scalzi blog.

Coincidentally, I'm reading The House of Silk by Anthony Horowitz, another Sherlock Holmes pastiche. I think you'd enjoy it.

had meant to get a copy of the shadow ops book, and he'll be at boskone, so will get it signed. Looks very cool. Just ordered it. I even avoided the kindle copy, so i could let other folks read it, and get it signed :)

Delayed gratification. what a concept these days..
